My wife and I have been coming to the Dedham Summer Shack every year for our anniversary. We have done this a number of times. We also occasionally come for a really nice dinner out. The food in general is excellent. It was no different this time. I have a couple of comments about things that would have made the most recent experience better. This is a seafood restaurant. You would expect that a reasonable amount of lemon would be served with the meal. Not this time. We got one tiny piece for two different entrees. We found a waiter to get us a total of 3 more small pieces of lemons. I was wondering if they should send someone to the supermarket on the other side of the road to pick up a bat...
We had fried clams as an appetizer. At $16, we felt that the portion was either very small or the price too high. The few clams that were on the plate were excellent. Our fried scallops were tasty and perfectly prepared. The lobster roll was average at best, lacking any taste similarity to many lobster rolls we have enjoyed throughout New England. Finally, our server presented himself with a somewhat cocky attitude that certainly was not justified by his performance. His inattentiveness with our table showed in his inability to even refill water glasses for ten minutes after being requested to do so. Note the dining area was, at most, maybe one third occupied. We haven't been to a summer shack restaurant in years and so fondly remembered our experience at the Cambridge, MA one great food so we were excited about going to Summer Shack. The menu looked good and the server was so nice, but then the food came. Worst mussels we have ever eaten. In fact, each member of our party had one and then we couldn't eat any more. Our 17 year old daughter said that it tasted like the beach on a hot steamy day with the dank water smell. She got it right. We had been so looking forward to the mussels. Very disappointed. Our entrees were mediocre at best. We should have guessed that that was why there was hardly anyone at the restaurant......
Went with 3 friends on Labor Day weekend (Sunday night). We all live in different towns, and Dedham is central, so it's great that Summer Shack takes reservations. The weekend bartender is so friendly and funny. When we had a friend running late, the hostess was really accommodating to us being seated 30 minutes later than our original reservation. Our server was fine. Seemed a little uneducated about the menu (didn't know if the Sea Bass was Chilean, Mediterranean or something else). Not a big deal though. Whatever it was, the sea bass was terrific!

A group of us went for my birthday. I had never been to the Summer Shack and I thought it was overpriced and more of a chain style restaurant I was wrong! Their menu had a variety of dishes from reasonably priced sandwiches to more pricier but gourmet style entrees. I ordered the Jasper 's Famous Pan Roasted Lobster, it was delicious! Other dishes ordered at our table were a Clambake and Crab Legs. Everyone really loved their meals! Our server was awesome, she was attentive and friendly! We will definitely be back!
While the SS will not knock off your socks, they are consistent with their food. Desserts leave much to be desired. We ordered to share the chocolate silk, and when it was served it was clear about a while. The filling was shrinking and separated from the crust. The lower crust was literally the texture of the cardboard. They needed a knife to cut it through. You hardly get the money for the price.
Had good selection of fresh fish as specials including Artic Char, Swordfish and Striped Bass. Plenty to choose from. We have had waiter before always friendly and professional and laughs at my husband's humor. Artic Char was flavorful and served with a red pepper sauce just enough to make attractive and flavorful. Nice cucumber salad was great summer treat.
The large seafood and specialties we expect in summer Shack are located in a convenient location near shopping centers and motorways. Beautiful funny seafood decor and also piped in music. Hubbie loved his sardine special appetizer and Bluefish and I loved my lobster Risotto.

Food is delicious! Bread and maize bread are not great! Salt was delicious! The pumpkin lobster bisque was one of my favorite foods ever!
