This family owned and operated restaurant opened in 2002 under the direction of “Mother of the Family” Chef Lee on Warren Avenue in East Providence. If you aren’t paying close attention, you might miss the sign hanging outside. When you step inside, you are standing in a narrow room where there is a ‘bar’ to the right, which faces the very small open kitchen. It honestly feels like you’re walking into someone’s home. That’s how intimate it is. We were brought into the next room of the restaurant (you could call this the living room!), which had four tables. Ordered tuna gimbap appetizer and kalbitang main. The gimbap was not too strong, but not too weak on flavor; it just met expectations. The kalbitang however was underwhelming in flavor, could have added more seasoning, because the bone broth tasted like a diluted/watered down bone broth with a hint of salt and pepper, otherwise there are 2 large chunks of meat that fall right off the bones very easily and was somewhat tender. And in traditional Korean fashion, you are served with free side dishes, im not sure if the side dishes change from day to day, but in my case I was served with seasoned bean sprouts, kimchi (of course, but it tasted like the “fresh/unfermented” kimchi) and marinaded cu...
The only place around Providence that offers traditional straight up Korean cuisine, none of the fusion stuff that seems to be prevalent in the area. Everyone is very kind and food arrives in a timely manner! Free sides include pickled cucumber, kimchi and beansprout banchan. Hidden gem of a Korean restaurant. The storefront is unsuspecting, but once you order and start eating, then know why the reviews for this place is excellent. This is our owner doctor 's favorite Korean restaurant in the Providence area, despite other fancier and more trendy and expensive ones downtown. Nice staff and great serving size. As another business in the area, we highly recommend this place!
