We've walked past here so many times without walking in, it was time. And we didn't regret it. Friendly, attentive staff who greeted us by name (we'd made a booking, as it's often full when we walk past), and remembered our names again as we left. Small courtesies like this make a difference, and we appreciated the personal touch. There's a really nice vibe in here, too. This restaurant was a recommendation from one of their long time customers and we were not disappointed. It is located just a bit down the road from Lygon Street, where we usually dine when we are in Melbourne. I arrived at Supermaxi and the inside is pleasant and has nice decor. I was seated almost immediately and given a menu, I noticed very quickly how the staff weren't good at checking in on you (how you were going), I'm not saying they need to check every 5 seconds but once or even twice would be good. Me and my mother ordered a Margherita and a puttanesca. While we waited for our order my mother asked if the heater could be turned up as it was a tad chilly inside, the waiter responded with a sure but also made a very awkward, rude, sexist comment as he turned it up which both made us very uncomfortable. came to supermaxi for dinner with friends and had a nice meal. hard to blame! the only thing that could have been better is the service, as it was sometimes hard to get the waiter attention! at the beginning we had the crossbed mozzarella with olivenhain, which was super delish. for the net we could not decide between pizza and pasta, so we both have! the pizza and pasta dishes were both excellent! the real highlight of the meal was dessert! the desserts all sounded so good, so we got the tiramisu, the chocolate panna cotta with heaven sorbet, the pavlowa roulade with berries, and the fried custard with ice. Went there on Friday night. Great service and ambience. Ordered pizza as an entree to share, a seafood pasta and a dessert. Couldn't rave more about the taste of all those three items. Was encouraged to buy their 'garden fresh' salad - which we did AFTER the menu was taken. This particular salad was just pieces of lettuce with a drizzle of olive oil - cost $12 and was tasteless. The waitress asked us if we wanted parmesan cheese to which we all said yes but it never arrived. Food still tasted great though! Busy and buzzy. Just don't order the salad!
Alcohol and food a bit pricey but the food was delicious...our table shared entrees, then we all had our mains..great atmosphere in the restaurant. It can be noisy mostly large groups of patrons; I didn't mind it as we were there with another 3 couples. Clean, chic decor and I would disagree with other reviews that it was lacking in atmosphere. I found it a bit warm inside, needed some air flow, we sat up front, maybe cooler in the back of restaurant. Lovely service, great night out with friends.
We finally booked to have dinner at Supermaxi after driving past it for so long.I had a look on line,and liked the look of the simple menu,but thought the prices of the wines were to expensive,I called to make a booking and asked about byo and was told there was a $20 corkage,I was fuming as I think that is way to much.My husband and I shared a starter a pizza and gnocchi and a dessert!!We enjoyed everything,and I think that's the best tastiest pizza I have ever had.We will be back
we felt unwilling when we entered, as we were dressed half casually (jeans and jacket). the Asian guy at the bar said we shouldn't wear guards inside and was aggressive about asking us why we thought it was acceptable. Very homely feel to this place situated in a corner pocket of Nth Fitzroy.No BYO and I thought the wine a bit pricey which is a neg but the food was lovely. a positiveBest dish for the veal cutlet and coleslaw. Would return but the no BYO means less frequently but I guess this is what the place is all about.
