If you are a bit of a gourmet like me and you like you food to not only taste superb but to be really eye catching, to be cooked to your taste and backed with excellent friendly family service and at a very reasonable price. Then look no further. That is why I eat there several times a week. My cooking at home (I live here in Torrox Costa) is very same old and I am not creative in the kitchen. So Joao is an amazing and superbly creative chef. Jose, Maria and Alvaro are all family and very friendly and they do a superb job. So make it your next port of call LOL and enjoy to the full. I have waited a while before giving an update, because I wanted to see how Chef Joao settled in. But all I will add to my previous comments is that, Jose, Maria, Joao and all the beautiful and wonderful staff at La Taberna, thank you for an experience never to be forgotten. This really is something different both in hospitality and very special food. it is open air but sheltered, food is something very different. So make sure you ask what the daily speciality is because you will have a great surprise. Take it from a seasoned old traveller world wide, this is quite different and you must try it and never be afraid to ask for something different.
There are many Chiringuito's and restaurants on this stretch of coast and to be perfectly clear many of them are excellent. But, La Taberna Beach is something special. Yes it is open and not an enclosed restaurant and maybe sometimes you have to chose because of the weather. But when you combine a very special and broad menu, the fact that you can combine to suit your own taste, the amazing hospitality, the cost and friendliness. I do not think there is anywhere better on this stretch of the Paseo. So hey people go talk to Jose, Maria, Cipuy or any of the family and you will be welcomed like family. Have a great time.
Well I am very critical of meat, I don't like the modern trend to blood everywhere on the plate, it was not meant to be. Meat should be cooked to personal liking and I have to say that Joao the Chef cooked this to perfection and to my taste. So if you want good value, excellent cooking, you just have to ask for what you want and not what others tell you, you should have LOL. I am sick of chefs who say this is how you should have it. No for me it is how I want it and this is where you get that. So just ask and tell. Sorry if I buck the current trend but what I want is what I want and this is where I get it.

I saw another comment about this being a good Tapas bar, yes it is BUT It is also an excellent restaurant serving an excellent range of all kinds of food. Watch for the daily special board outside, there is a full menu and Joao the Chef will mix and match as much as is possible to meet your requirements, you just have to ask. There is also an excellent range of wines, spirits, cold drink and hot drinks so please don't be fooled by you first glance. Jose, maria and rest of the staff always go out of their way to make you welcome.
This is an open air Chiringuito style restaurant bar. The food, staff and service are all excellent and the atmosphere is so friendly you cannot imagine. There is a wide range of food and the equal of some high class restaurants in the area so It is an excellent choice both for a top quality meal, Tapas or snacks. one of the best in my opinion. Ask for Jose, Maria or Yaritza.
La taberna te va a sorprender con la calidad y el sabor de su comida, déjate aconsejar por José. Nosotros probamos huevos rotos con jamón (un espectáculo) , bacalao del chef (para hacerle un monumento), croquetas de espinaca cremosas y buenísimas. Hamburguesa de ternera casera y flamenquin (de 10). Un lugar al que volver sin dudarlo y para los indecisos ni lo dudéis.
This is not high class restaurant and neither is it just a beach bar. it is an open Chiringuito it has covered area, it has a high class Chef, it has superb food, it has amazingly friendly staff and it is superb value for money. So what are you all waiting for, come and get it!

This is a good tapas bar towards the end of the promenade serving good typical standard tapas at a good price. It was very busy during the lunchtime when we were there. We found a table and the service was very good. If you like Spanish tapas give it a try.
