I've been visiting Los Algodones for over 15 years, and during each trip, we always take some time to enjoy El Paraiso. However, for the first time, I experienced an issue there. We ordered a few drinks and some nachos, and when it was time to settle the bill, it came to $44.00. I contributed a $20 bill, while my friends added two $20s. The waiter handed the money to a third party (a woman handling money), who performed a sleight of hand and only returned $6.00 in change. She claimed to have received only $50.00, which was clearly part of a scam. Although I've encountered similar situations in other Mexican cities, I've never had a problem here before. During our trip back to San Francisco, we stopped by this rest area which offers a variety of food choices. I wanted something different from fast food, so I was drawn to this food truck that had tables, some shade, and a nice crowd. I thought, why not give it a shot? I ordered four tacos, and they were fantastic—tender and flavorful meat wrapped in soft tortillas. They even provided hot sauce, which was a nice touch. It was exactly what I was craving for a taco truck lunch. I highly recommend it!
I stopped here for breakfast burritos, and I had the chorizo while my husband went for the ham. Both were outstanding! It took a little while for our order to arrive, but that's because they are genuinely made to order. If you're driving along I-5, be sure to stop here and skip the repetitive chain food options!
