If you've ever had dinner at John's Place in Newark before they closed, you will notice that this place is basically the same! Why?! Because the people that own this restaurant used to work at John's! The workers were friendly and greeted me when I walked in. I placed my order and waited about 20 minutes because they had to fry my chicken. The fried chicken was seasoned well and was fried perfectly! I'm not sure how you can mess up corn bread but they totally did! It comes with the meal at no additional charge so that softens the blow a little. The Mac and cheese was nothing to write home about but it wasn't the worst either. FYI- they mix cabbage in with their collard greens which I didn't...
I gave 1 star due to rewarming food in microwave and how the food loses it texture. I order turkey chops, Mac n cheese and collard greens. The turkey chops was hard, it was like chewing wood stick, I like the gravy, the cornbread was horrible it was hard. Either they let it stay in microwave way too long. Plus they warm it in that plastic container and not a plate. It would have been better serve on a plate especially when eating inside. Food loses it texture after microwave and it don't get everything hot when food is pile up. I Just don't agree with microwaving food. Leave food in oven at a low temperature after being prepared, like a oven warmer.
It's rare I can find absolutely flawless, quality soul food outside of the kitchens of my family. This place defies that! I love their food and the portions are generous. The owner is friendly and so is the atmosphere. It's quaint, I have never dined in. But i wait inside happily for my order. The food makes the bang worth the buck! The turkey wings fall off the bone, so flavorful with dressing/stuffing tucked underneath. The macaroni and cheese is cheesy and the yams are the perfect match. I'll be back again.
Not worth the disgusting and terrible customer service. Called and could barely hear them through all the noise in the background. Had to ask several times what they have because they are always running out. Lady got smart, tried to be funny and said fried, baked, or RAW . When I heard them laughing in the background I cancelled my order. There 's too many other restaurants that appreciate their customers for me to put up with that.

Landed at Newark airport and was craving some southern food. Went here and I got the turkey meat loaf, mac and cheese along with collard greens, corn bread and sweet potato pie. I enjoyed everything but the turkey best loaf. They had lamb chops that I shouldn't went with. I will be back and I will order a wider variety of items. Customer service was great, atmosphere felt like my moms kitchen eating area. I recommend this place
Horrible service. Restaurant doesn't seem to know when their closed. Called in to place an order. Was told to it would take 30 minutes so I arrived in 45 min and they said they gave my food away without calling ahead to see if I was coming or not. Wasted my gas for no reason
Went for breakfast. Maybe 3rd time, but haven't been here in a while. Husband and I ordered the same thing. Salmon cakes and grits. So so good. The salmon cakes were delicious, not greasy. Gotta get there more often.
As Great as it gets. Went there today had a wonderful time and the food was so TASTY !!!! The place has plenty of parking and is clean nice and cozy. The workers are friendly but most of all the good is really good.

The food was ok I'll give it another shot wasn't a big fan of the breading they use for the seafood but other than that I have no complaints the service was good.
The food is excellent. I was craving pork chops smothered in gravy!! I was not disappointed!! Highly recommend.
