Dinner started off well. Seated outside as requested. Service was good and attentive throughout dinner. Had beer and cocktails. All were good. Tom Collins was a little tart but refreshing.Cod was nice and flaky. Carrot puree was bland. Asked to swap out the Kale and they wouldn't. Said no substitions but provided more carrot puree. Beet salad was good but felt it was over priced.Sticky toffee delicious. Wish it came with more ice cream. Raspberry sorbet was good but again 2 very small scoops.It started to rain heavily while we were outside. Half the people were provided a table inside and other half a seat at the bar. The title is the quote from the concierge at our hotel. It is a short walk away from the Bell Centre, the Sheraton and the tourist information office. Nice feel to the place. We were seated toward the back, which was a little loud — and unfortunately did not mean we were served our food any quicker. Our order was taken quickly, but we had a bit of a wait for the food- and this was about 10 p.m. midweek. One daughter had bangers and mash, maybe the best I've ever had. I had a vegetable puree soup, which had a surprising spicy kick. Also tried the corn fritters - yum. A touch sweet and perfectly crisp. Absolutely an amazing time here , great atmosphere. We ate on the patio , a bit quieter out there. Started with an excellent charcuterie , then ordered the best steak of my life - beef striploin (medium) - he had the bangers n Mash , they were ok - the sausage had blue cheese in it so it overpowered the overall flavour of the dish , but it sounded like they have different types of sausages at different times so maybe another order another time would be better. We finished our drinks inside , a great evening atmosphere. The restaurant itself is a great place just to look at, and the wait staff and music add to the experience. Would definitely return again !
My partner and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our 5th anniversary and we were absolutely thrilled with our experience! We were seated in a lovely area with a beautiful and elegant decor. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the staff were exceptional and welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. Loved the decor, felt like we were in Europe. Great service and amazing food. If you love mussels, they are to die for - in a bacon cider broth with the most amazing pomme frits. Beef short ribs, perfectly cooked, yummy with mashed potatoes. Friends we were with had eaten there the night before and enjoyed it so much, they joined us for dinner so they could eat there again. I wish this restaurant was in my home city.
Since this is an old pub, we sere surprised by the limited but very interesting choices like rabbit terrine, sea trout, and Cornish hen. We found the food to be excellent and the service accommodating and friendly. Of note were the trout and salmon dishes and a wonderful orange steamed pudding dessert.
I spent a weekend in Montreal and we were at this place once a day. Our bartender Maureen was amazingly helpful navigating the foreign landscape. Lovely place and I highly recommend stopping off for a beer.
