Our starter arrived an hour later, and although it was tasty, the soup was lukewarm. We waited for another 1 hour and 40 minutes for our main course, only to be told that the nut roast was not ready and would take longer to cook than turkey. I was shocked and hungry, as they had more than enough time to prepare the meal. When I expressed my frustration to the staff, the manager rudely accused us of disrespecting his staff and demanded that we leave, along with our £30 deposit. His behavior was aggressive and intimidating, and I will not tolerate such treatment.

We booked a table for 7 people to enjoy a “Festive Menu” as a pre-Christmas family get together. What a mistake! Our table was reserved ready for us. Drinks ordered and all looking good. Seemed to see fair amount of staff on, plus management. Been to the Abbey few times, so to observe very clearly. Only two members of staff were working. Doing bar, taking food orders, clearing tables, bringing food out. They were 2 male staff (one with glasses other goatee beard) both young At one point management and the other staff in a group talking behind the bar. Not impressed with the management, did commit to lad when came on to the bar to serve. Management clearly wasn’t happy with my commit. To be honest I really do not care. Reading the reviews I think there is something strange happening. The place was super busy and we struggled to get a seat as we hadn't booked. The staff were lovely and very friendly. Food took about 30 minutes to come out but seeing as it was busy it was kind of expected. My partner had the steak and ale pie which had a crunchy pastry with mashed potatoes and gravy. I had the fish and chips which was crispy and hot. We had a great chilled night and the place was decorated for Christmas. The tree looked amazing. I did feel sorry for the staff at one point a group of people were making a fuss, however it was dealt with quickly. Will be back

This is the 2nd time we have taken my elderly father out for Sunday lunch. Yet again left disappointed, Dad had the beef which he though he had been given a pork chop as he was a huge chunk of gristle and fat, myself and son found it tasteless and in fact both myself and dad left our plates full of food. staff are friendly and helpful but I think some thing needs to change in the kitchen area. I do not think we will return again -sorry
I ordered the mixed grill but was disappointed to find that it did not include sausage, instead I was served chicken wings without being asked if that substitution was okay. The gammon (or possibly just bacon) was very thin, and the steak was tough. The mushrooms were so small and burnt, it was difficult to tell if they were actually mushrooms. The staff seemed to avoid me during my visit.
I went to the restaurant for lunch and was told that they only accepted walk-ins. However, when I tried to go in, I was rejected because I hadn't made a booking. The staff did not apologize and overall, it was a terrible experience.
Horrific experiance, the ginger oaf behind the bar was scratching is genitals and the carrying food out. Disgracefull. Unless you want ginger pubes in your food i would suggest you go elsewhere.

Really nice pub! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff, we were served by Matt and he was funny and helpful! Great for group bookings as well.
The big ginger oaf served us, great time would come again great food and great service. Definitely recommend
