This little gem is located in the beautiful neighbourhood of High Park, in west-end Toronto. When you arrive, prepare to enter into a time capsule; the new owners decided to keep the original booths and decor from the location's days as a Chinese restaurant - it's cozy and charming. I've been here three times, with friends and family - each time the staff has been lovely. The drink list is comprehensive (you'll find some excellent cocktails), and the menu is thoughtful. As is often the case with better restaurants - there are not a lot of choices. Went in for brunch the other day, but was told there was a wait.... gave them my name and came back twenty minutes later.Finally got a table, and ordered food, but our sandwich and french toast did not come for an hour..... not kidding, an entire hour for that. People who had come in after us were served before us? Not sure how that happened, but I did make a comment loudly that the food was taking an extremely long time.Service left a bad taste in my mouth; despite the food being really good, I doubt I would come back because they seemed indifferent especially when foil was found in my friends' food. Too much money for what we received....
I came here with my daughter on a Monday night for dinner at about 6:00 pm. We managed to get a seat right away. We found the ambience of this restaurant was very inviting. The waiting staff were also quite lovely. My daughter who is a vegetarian had the deep fried Brussels spouts and an order of fries. Both dishes were huge and we ended up taking some home. I had the Country-Fried Chicken with Collard Greens, Cornbread, & Ham Gravy. It was all very tasty and we enjoyed it. I was happy as the main meals do include vegetables as well. We enjoyed the meal and the ambience and would recommend the restaurant to others.
It was the perfect place for us to have lunch and suited us well. We arrived at 2pm and they close at 3pm (before opening again for dinner) but there were others there and they were happy to serve us. Waitress was social and helpful and we enjoyed our chat with her (she too was from the West).Tacos were the order of the day with fish or buttermilk fried chicken - seriously delicious!. They make their own hot sauce, their own bacon tomato jam and their own ice cream (lemony goodness). We were stuffed full and happy with food. We'll go back when next in Toronto - Hoping for such a place closer to home!

I stopped in here to check this place out. The Ace has great food but a typically pretentious TO spot. I tried to get a friendly banter going with one staff - just measure staff friendliness - (I was not flirting at all) that was not well received - perhaps just misinterpreted on their part. The bar man knew his craft beer well and the burger was outstanding. The crowd was very Yuppie/Hipster TO style. I've lived in and out of Toronto for over 30 years and although this is a great place is does reinforce the Toronto pretentious face - just a enough to make me not want to go back.
Iconic old diner in the heart of Roncensvalles. Friendly and personable server, however, she rarely returned to the table to check on the patrons. The food was very good. I had the fried chicken sandwich and my dining partner had the kale salad. The hand cut fries were perfect - lightly seasoned, crisp and hot. My only grip is that the sandwich is served on a soft hamburger bun which falls apart once saturated with sauce. I felt that it would be better on a crusty ciabatta bun. Apart from that I would return in the future to try other items on the menu.
Put this restaurant on your bucket list! Loved our experience - great vibe, spectacular service, wonderful server and the food we ordered was amazing!Deep fried Brussel sprouts were the bomb! Our main dish the fried chicken, collard greens and corn bread were a huge hit! We saw many great mains that we will go back and order for sure. And did I mention the desserts....peanut butter icebox pie - heaven on a plate. A warm welcoming place where you will LOVE the food and the entire experience.
I accidentally decided to stop in for a mid week lunch. I was not disappointed. It is a small quirky diner type restaurant. I really enjoyed the fried BBQ chicken sandwich and the soup of the day. The waitress was super friendly and very kind and helpful to an older couple who had lots of questions and requests. Will definitely go back.

We found this option with apparently great reviews. The food wasn't impressive at all, microscopic steaks (please try to find them on the pic below), lots of butter and overall not a good meal. Slow service and long lines that gives you higher expectations than what reality offers....
