We live in the area and haven't been to The Central Hotel well before having kids. Even back then it was a pretty average tired looking hotel. As we have found the Cardi hotel has got very expensive and the food quality hasn't been matching the price hike since its revamp we thought we'd try The Central hotel at Beaconsfield. Entrance is at back of hotel through either two doors flanked by security personnel - this is at 7pm on a Friday night. We go through an area that looks like the dance area due to the equipment setup and a bar - quite empty at that time of night. We could see the public bar area through a door next to the bar but had trouble finding the bistro which was off to the left....
It was a very hot day. The staff were friendly, the Bistro was pleasantly cool with the air conditioner, the drinks were cold, the meals were just right, the prices were good and the whole atmosphere was relaxing. I was very happy. I took a veal schnitzel as a "senior's meal" for just $12.90 and my beer was icy cold. There was also a good selection of wine by the glass, but I was a bit dehydrated. For vegetarians, the pickings were lean, but with salads, vegetables and a risotto, something could be cobbled together,
Four of us went there for dinner. What a mistake. The menu had more of what wasn't available than was. The floor needs restumping to. Every time someone walked past our table our chairs shook. Wonderful!. We left there after one drink and went to another establishment which had a full menu, solid floors and a pleasant atmosphere. Would not recommend the Central and won't be back again.
We went for a week night meal after work with friends. I had the fish and chips in beer batter, unfortunately not so good, the fish was under cooked, the batter was not crisp, the salad was good the beer was cold the bar lady was friendly the floor staff was not so friendly won't go back in a hurry. A good pub, that service honest pub food, in a traditional pub setting. The bar is a bit roudy but the beer is good, it's well priced, the deck is great and the pool tables worth a game. Typically live music on a Friday or Saturday night is a bonus. Don't expect anything other than a local pub and eatery, because you are likely to be disappointed.
On separate occasions I have had the need to return food to the kitchen only to receive attitude from the grumpy waitress. On both occasions the meal was raw to the point where it turned me off. I like food that is rare but I do not do blue. Please have the graciousness to accept that someone made a mistake. don't try to say it is my fault.
This is one of my all time favorite pubs, with easily the best service i have had at any pub..i really recommend that you look past the blokey pub image and

The Texas Parma is delish, fantastic place run by fantastic people. Highly recommended.
