Lovely atmosphere and very friendly service. Food was good and this was close to being a four star review, but..... Unusually there were no vegetarian (or vegan) options on either the main or kids menu. There was a vegetarian option on the lunch baguette menu and the kitchen did offer a vegan burger or nut roast but I would advise calling ahead if you have a vegetarian or vegan in your party, and especially children as the kids menu was burger nuggets and chips, desperately lacking a pasta option! Unfortunately I think this will stop us visiting again but if you are not bothered by this, the Chequers if definitely worth a visit.
I was looking for a place to have lunch on a Saturday while travelling from the south coast. This restaurant was a super convenient stop, only 100m from the A34. It was a lovely thatched pub with a good welcome. The beer they served was Fullers, which was great. I had already checked the menu online and was satisfied with it, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a fabulous specials board in the bar with even better choices. I fully recommend this place.
Stopped here for lunch halfway between Bath and Bedford on an October Friday. Excellent autumn vegetable soup, thick, really tasty, hot and nicely garnished. Too filling to follow with a main course but did manage a generous apricot crumble with lashings of hot custard. Very friendly staff, easy to find and plenty of parking. We will return!!
I stopped by for a bite to eat and was greeted with a warm welcome. The food was fantastic, the staff were friendly, and the restaurant had plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. They had a great selection of drinks and a wonderful menu. Overall, I had a great experience dining at this restaurant.

What a lovely pub , good decor , friendly staff . Food was very good . I loved the little extras like the little jug of curry sauce with fish chips and gravy with sausage sandwich . I have not been here for years but I will be back soon
Had two delicious burgers and some fantastic service from the waiter Sam! He looked after everything and was friendly and very welcoming. Even helped us out with lots of traffic advice too! Would recommend to anyone!
This is a lovely old pub and the service was fine but the food was not so good . I had the chicken and mushroom pie which was a bit dry and my wife had the lentil shepherds pie which was completely tasteless .
This pub is amazing and me and my family love it. The owners ,waiters and waitresses treat us like family. The food is always high standard and generous portions. We are definitely coming again.

We made a last-minute reservation at a charming, peaceful pub that quickly filled up with a pleasant atmosphere and energy. The service and food were fantastic. I highly recommend it!
Very organised, very welcoming and very good food. We enjoyed an Afternoon Tea which was comprehensive and tasty and imaginative and good value for money.
