The most amazing experience, food and host! This is a hidden gem and Louie the chef and owner is absolutely incredible. We were only in the UK for 4 days but we spent 3 of them here having his Sunday roast one day oysters another and his incredible lemon posset on another. We have never had a roast dinner or yorkshire pudding like it. The ambiance is so beautiful and interesting, he has done an amazing transformation. Our only regret is that we wish we lived there to frequent his delectable food and very rare to find extremely warm welcoming generosity. We won't forget our visit and can't wait to be back. It's worth noting that the pub has been under completely new ownership since late 2023, so earlier reviews don't reflect the current owner. The Chequers is a really surprising find, fantastic seafood in particular and ambience and a larger-than-life host in Louis. You won't find anything else like it in the area, definitely worth a try. It's situated in the quiet hamlet of Hall End, there is plenty of parking outside this characterful building, or it's a short walk from Wootton.
