Frankly awful! I booked for a pre theatre meal for 5 people so timing was important, booked for 4:15 with the show starting at 7...plenty of time. To be clear the website stated that food was being served at this time. Arrived and stood waiting while the waiter tapped at his screen ignoring me for 5 minutes, a polite excuse me was met with a grunt then being shown to a table in the middle of the pub, I don 't mind a pub at all, but when you have booked a table in a supposed restaurant (for your mum) you don 't want to be sat in the middle of a drinking pub. We were hoping to to have a relaxed, celebratory meal but unfortunately it was not what was expected. We arrived on time to find our table still had glasses, etc. from the previous dinners still on it so had to wait for it to be cleared even though the entire pub was very quiet. I asked for a gluten free menu to be told they didn't have one but could do accommodate me....then the waiter walked off so I had to find the manager to go through the menu with him for options by the bar. The food service was very slow, especially given the restaurant was not busy we then found one of the meals wasn't cooked properly. I went to the coach and horses today with somebody I support. The man there, presumably the owner, was so lovely. Held the last orders open a little bit longer so we could visit and made us feel so comfortable offering us to sit wherever we wanted. We sat down and there was not much of a wait but for the person I was supporting us a big deal, he came over and offered help and I said it’s just the wait and he said I completely understand and within minutes the PWS meal was out. He was so lovely and so understanding, the atmosphere was very relaxed and we all felt welcome. Visited this lovely place yesterday 20/05/24. What a little gem Atmosphere was so friendly and relaxed. Food was excellent tasting and excellent value. The landlord was so friendly and entertaining . Everyone in there was so friendly and there was friendly banter between the landlord and customers. Such a pity the landlord and landlady are retiring. People are going to be missing out on a lovely experience there. Many thanks to the landlord from the couple who ate outside and had the fish and chips and the curry with half and half. Had a fantastic Sunday Roast Beef Dinner and a delicious dessert washed down with a couple of pints. The landlord and staff were very hospitable, and the landlady's cooking was spot on. Great food at very reasonable prices. Great atmosphere. Great Beer, especially the Swordfish. Certainly worth a revisit
Unfortunately we arrived on Sunday lunch and the restaurant had a table with lots of noisy children, we decided to leave, but this was no fault of the restaurant. Great pub for a drink and a noisy bite to eat, it is usually busy and noisy.
We always had a very warm friendly welcome, the food was always delicious, and enjoyable, the atmosphere was always great, enjoy your retirement.
Very poor service due to staffing issues and exacerbated by the staff who were present. Will not be back.

Extremely good value for money no frills pub grub and well kept Wadsworth Ales. Will definitely be back.
Lovely lunch. Very attentive service. Definitely a good choice for our lunch stop.
