After shopping in Selfridges my wife and I wanted a small bite to eat and some drinks. We waited to be seated at the entrance to the restaurant and a lady approaches us and asks if we are there for lunch. I said no we would just like a snack and a couple of drinks. She looked at us in disgust and replied with that 's not the concept that we do here . She then said what exactly will you be ordering this is an extremely odd question to be asked before I 've even sat down or looked at the menu!! Despite being in a shop, the atmosphere is quiet and pleasant, which is a rarity in bustling London on a Sunday. The service was quite good. We started with olives and good bread for £9, followed by a main course of Monkfish in a tomato broth for £22, which was tasty but more like a soup than expected. Wow the mighty Selfridges has become a nightmare shop full of 21st century rubbish costing the earth and nothing else. The toilet situation is abysmal in this shop as for this restaurant it looked promising but the service was ZERO . Sat down and waited 15 minutes no waiters no waitress no menu and ignored. As we left we commented and the girl said ' we are short of staff two people went sick and we can 't manage '. Welcome to UK extortionate prices zero value and even not bothered to serve you.
I had a difficult time finding information about this restaurant. One website stated that it was permanently closed. Despite this, I was able to make a reservation. When I arrived at Selfridges, I asked a security guard for directions but he had no idea where it was. I then asked at another restaurant but they also had no clue. We were looking for a nice lunch before an evening concert at Wigmore Hall. The Food Hall was very noisy so we followed signs to the restaurant and found it empty and quiet. We had scallops and monkfish with mussels from a small menu, they were both excellent and delicious. Service was first class and we enjoyed the views from the windows. Prices were not bad for a London restaurant.
This London restaurant is the best kept secret in the city. It's a hidden gem where you can escape and unwind right in the heart of London. The staff are friendly and genuine, and the food is outstanding. It's a truly great find.
If you want to be turned away because you don't want to drink champagne at lunchtime because they are busy (half the tables were empty) then this is the place for you. Anya the server was particularly and unnecessarily rude.

A tired corner of Selfridges with service to match. Ignored at the ‘wait to be seated’ sign to be told by other guests to simply take a seat. Miserable waiter. Very disappointing.
