What used to be an institution in the area is now no longer. I booked a reservation for Mother’s Day on opentable and received a confirmation. I also got a call days before the meal to confirm the reservation. I picked up my disabled mother who does not live in the area and brought her to the restaurant expecting a wonderful meal. Instead, I was greeted at the door by a man who told us it was impossible that my reservation had been made or confirmed because the restaurant was closing at 1pm. That was indeed the time of the reservation. Perplexed, I asked to speak to the manager and he claimed to be the manager. He said he’d take care of us and proceeded to walk us to the hotel lobby bar. If you are staying at the Short Hills Hilton, The Dining Room is a comfortable place to dine. The Open Table reservation site says Hotel Parking-Parking is complimentary for all restaurant and hotel guests. We were staying at the Short Hills Hilton on the evening that we ate at the Dining Room, i.e., we were a hotel guest; however, the hotel said that the Open Table comment was on the third party site and we were charged the $10 overnight parking fee.
