We booked a table at the Dover Castle to celebrate my Mum’s 60th birthday, as she’d visited previously and liked their food. We came away disappointed. The service was crazily slow throughout our visit, which was ridiculous considering we were the only table on the place for half of our visit our roast dinners eventually came out; our beef was grey and tough with a lot of hard fat, but the other elements of the roast were nice and it was a big portion. Portions sizes were a little inconsistent, as 2 of us had beef pie and mash and their portions were much smaller than the roasts. They were both men and could have eaten it twice. We booked a table of 9 several days prior to our visit as it was a special occasion saying goodbye to members of our family returning to Australia after their holiday with us. Once seated we all ordered drinks and were given the menus. After some time the waitress approached and told us that there were problems in the kitchen which meant that items had been removed from the menus. When we were given a menu with almost everything crossed out we couldn’t stay and decided to leave. Totally unacceptable. No real reason or explanation given and was left to the young embarrassed staff to deal with us. No money off our drinks to compensate us- nothing just embarrassment. We hurriedly booked a table...
We walked in hoping we would get a table for 6, we was seated down straight away and asked for our drink order. Staff seemed busy but they was all still very attentive and polite. The roasts was lovely, could’ve done with some extra gravy served on the side but we all walked out very happy and very full. The chocolates we received with our bill was a special touch! We will definitely be returning, thank you again for fitting us in such short notice!!
I came here last night with some family, for the 3 course Christmas Dinner. I’ve had many Christmas meals over the years in various locations but I have to say, this was one of my favourites. The food was good and nicely presented and the staff were lovely. The crackers on the table had Christmas tree decorations in, which were a nice touch. Definitely would recommend. Excellent food and fantastic service, incredibly nice staff, especially the lovely young lady who didn’t bat an eyelid when the birthday boy asked for a packet of pork scratchings for dessert! We had such a lovely afternoon and after lunch sat in the Beer Garden a perfect day and we’ll be back
Amazing Sunday lunch, really impressed with the vegan options not often you find a vegan roast!! The staff were soo absolutely kind and attentive, they didn’t have problems when asked for the history of the pub and about their gluten free options. Will definitely be back!
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Staff were friendly with a great attitude, despite being busy on a Monday evening. Chicken burger's went down a treat on our table. We will definitely be returning soon!

We have been coming here as a family for a lot of years and we were so disappointed by the menu change and food today ..shame
