Our server a gentleman whose name I can't recall) did a poor job of checking on us throughout our stay. There was a young woman who pitched in and helped out when we asked her as she was passing by. Really we felt somewhat neglected by the fellow who first served us. We were seated just outside the entrance to the kitchen. One of the female servers would enter the kitchen and start speaking and laughing loudly while the door to the dining room was still opened. Staying at Ashford is the ultimate treat and it's not cheap! We had dinner in the Dungeon one night of our stay and it was okay it didn't exactly wow us, which could be on us. Staff are excellent, food was average (very small portions), decor was interesting, but it was cold (what did I expect in dungeon which could've been due to Covid ventilation requirements. Underwhelmed, unfortunately.
very pleasant staff, but the restaurant now offers a very cut menu to extreme trips. the online menu is not what is offered to be so conscious. eating was good, but very easy on portion size and the use of frozen chips was an eye opener in consideration of the price. it is actually better to book the main restaurant in the castle.
This is located in the lower level of Ashford Castle. Non-residents can dine here however reservations are essential and subject to availability after resident reservations. Very disappointed with the food. It was all very bland and tasteless. The staff couldn’t have been nicer but there is something seriously wrong in the kitchen. I’ve been coming here regularly for 35 years but the Afternoon Tea just isn’t good enough.
The atmosphere was fantastic, service was a dream, and the food was amazing. The venison meat pie was perfect and the meat wasn't gamey at all. Will definitely dine there again! Would highly recommend!
