I think the forest can fight at the moment because of the sudden swallowing negative reviews. I and my partner had booked an early lunch table at 12:30. when we arrived, we were just one of 3 tables in the restaurant, but there are still 30 minutes for us to give a drink! 15mins later, when our starters arrived, the order was wrong. the tellers were removed again 15mins, later the maitre d did not return with our appetizers, but with a little more brot and oliven to make us gloomy! A friend and I are currently doing a tour' of Sunday roasts. This was the second on our list having read about it being one of the best in the country and the most local to us. Very little atmosphere. Menus stained. Served coffee and tea but coffee was a cup no refills offered. Breakfast options for full English not correct. Bacon and hash browns overcooked and dry looked reheated. Toast almost inedible lumps of deep fried baguette Milk jugs individual)...filthy dirty. Mine had scum and brown stains all down the inside. I do not think the dishwashing process can adequately get down inside the very narrow necks. They really manual application of a bottle brush.
I took my mother here for afternoon tee as mother, daughter day and we had the best time! the staff was so friendly and helpful. the sandwiches we had were very tasty and the desserts were to die, especially the tropical and white...chocolate parfait! we also enjoyed our afternoon with a glass champagne and finished with a hot cup tee. the team is brilliant and there was such a good atmosphere. we will return and recommend to family and friends. next time we try the Sunday-breaking!
We had visited the Forest many times and enjoyed their speciality, chicken wings, so decided to try their Sunday lunch. What a disappointment. £12 for 4 spears of asparagus. £9 for 1 small filleted sardine. We both had roast beef. Small portions are fine providing...the quality is good. The beef was tough and tasteless. Roast potatoes overcooked and greasy. The Yorkshire pudding was very good.The staff were very attentive and efficient.
Katie organised my brothers Celebration of Life she was excellent nothing was too much trouble. The day went really well the food was exceptional. She has a lovely personality. We had a visitor stay in the hotel and they said in all their years of...travelling they had never been treated so well she made their stay so comfortable. Andy and Charlotte were also very helpful. I would highly recommend the Forest Hotel for any function.

My wife and I have eaten twice at this establishment in the past 2 months. The first time we ate in the bar area and enjoyed the meal and ambience. The second time we ate in the Oak Room which is very bland. This time...the food although fresh and well prepared was unmemorable. The chefs need to spice up the menu. The service was excellent both times. So with a little bit of work it could be one of the best eateries in the area.
Excellent overall! The hotel was great, the food superb and the staff extremely helpful indeed! We stayed because we were attending a wedding at the venue the following day.
