I arrived wet and tired but soon had a decent pint in front of me and a short while later an absolutely superb steak and ale pie. I'd have liked to stay the night but they only have four rooms and they were fully booked. They suggested the Diggle Hotel and once a booking was made over the phone, the owner himself drove me up there, he could see I wasn't keen on walking another step with a 13kg backpack weighing me down. Full marks for service beyond the call of duty. He says he's happy to take Pennine Way walkers back up the hill to rejoin the trail if they're stopping overnight with him. Great chap!
We’re moored close by so called before visiting to see what was going on that Friday night. Staff were really helpful on the phone and also when we visited. Local pub vibe with really friendly staff and patrons. Had some lovely food with my daughter and dog which arrived timely and was delicious. Nice ales (just two on offer, one amber and neck oil IPA) on pump. All made to feel welcome (did I say that already), few friendly dogs milling around. Overall would recommend. Especially for boaters passing through.
Walked in with my girlfriend, sat at the bar waiting to be served for about 5 minutes, got completely ignored although one of the bartenders was busy. A few girls walked in behind me and one of the staff walked straight over to them and asked what they would like. Perhaps my attire or face didn't make the cut.
Popped in after doing the Halloween trail, it’s ok typical village boozer really. You can spot the locals a mile off and the tv sport coverage is pretty poor (jumpy etc) but that said I got a drink and it was reasonably priced plus I used the car park all day for the trail so yeah not bad.

Easy going, fun and lively staff members! A place for family, friends and your pets too. We had a lovely dinner after a long walk and couldn’t suggest a better place for a day out with family and friends, don’t forget your pets to!
Had such a good night at The Gate Inn. The Landlady is such a lovely women and made us very welcome. The chicken skewers and pizzas are to die for! Well definitely be making our visits more regularly up there. X
The atmosphere here is very lively and friendly, the bar staff are very friendly and easy to communicate with. It is a nice environment to have a drink and a laugh with your friends. Definitely recommend!!!
Nice atmosphere. Owners are friendly and attentive. Food is just so-so. Fills the hole but not great. Clean. 80s music is a little tiresome.

Since the new landlord and landlady have taken over it feels like a proper community pub again with great service and a friendly atmosphere
