I can’t believe people can find anything to complain about at the George. For many years I have gone every Thursday evening, and guess what, you see the same faces there and many new ones. The restaurant is ALWAYS busy and that speaks for itself. We often go as a family for Sunday lunch, and guess what we are going tomorrow. The food and the choices are second to none, DELICIOUS is the only way to describe the food. As regards the staff, they are absolutely AMAZING, friendly,helpful and always cheerful. As I said earlier I have gone there for years and will continue to do so. My grandchildren think I am hard to please when it comes to eating out, but I assure you, in all the years I have eat...
Just want to thank everyone at the George for a wonderful 2023 season. We have a caravan at Ripley and have dined there numerous times and it is always a reasonably priced, delicious meal! There is always a friendly welcome, the waiting staff remember your face, the chef is welcoming and generous with his portions. The meat is so tender, the veg is beautiful, our plates are piled high and you are encouraged to eat! The owners are lovely chaps, always so friendly, my kids love chatting to David who always goes out of his way to make sure they are having a great time and eating their veg!!! We came here for a birthday meal with a very large party ie 20, including kids. The carvery was excellent and delicious. Options were turkey beef, ham and gammon and you can mix and match. They do apparently do a vegetarian option though this wasn't apparent. Loses a mark because we were told we could only have the tables for 2 hours, they only have one bitter (Tetleys draught) and the service was a little chaotic ie a waitress came and asked if she could collect empty glasses but then just stood at the end of the table while I collected and delivered them to her. But given the size of the group, we can forgive that. Overall recommended and it was our first visit, but we'll be trying it agai...
We booked a room for one night, would have stayed longer but sadly they were fully booked. The room was clean, the bed was comfy and the shower had lashings of hot water, also plenty of complimentary tea and coffee. We had a carvery and it was fantastic, the meat was cooked to perfection as were the vegetables, the mustard and horseradish sauce were lovely and tasty and added to what was already a beautiful meal. David is a great asset front of house, approachable, helpful and we felt that nothing was too much trouble. If we are ever in need of an overnight stay in the area, we'll be back!

Having been for a meal with friends and had a reasonable meal, not the best in Yorkshire as advertised, decided to give it a second chance on a lunchtime. Arriving at 1115 before the place opened parked on the car park and went for a walk along the road. After 15 minutes was accosted by a very rude man who told us to remove our car from the car park. Explained that we were waiting for the pub to open when he said that we were waiting at a bus stop! Very arrogant, will not bother returning again.
We were incredibly impressed with the carvery at this restaurant. The staff were extremely pleasant and efficient. The food was outstanding, my husband even said it was the best Yorkshire pudding he's ever had. We paid for two adult carvery meals and both children ate for free. They have plenty of high chairs available, which can be rare at some restaurants. We were able to choose our own seating and the waitress with red hair was very friendly towards us and our children.
I am shocked to see any reviews lower than excellent. Some people must need to clean their glasses and get a new set of taste buds. This restaurant is truly wonderful and the food was incredible. I couldn't find any faults whatsoever.
The best in Yorkshire this is not! Like School dinners we visited with our family food was average at best, tasteless and bland . service was great tho but its about a fantastic Sunday roast and it doesnt deliver disappointing

This restaurant is a fantastic, family-friendly place to eat. The food is good and the service is even better. The management is always welcoming and the prices are excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend it!
Sunday lunch. Great carvery food excellent very organized set up. Much easier and probably cheaper than eating at home!
