The Fleece is one of those places that always under promises and over delivers. What appears to be a humble, slightly quaint Yorkshire pub is actually an excellent destination for quality food. The pub is affiliated with the local farm shop, so the meat is fresh local produce and it shows. We visited as a family and found menu choices to be varied ; our twin girls loved customising their own pizzas and we were impressed with the quality, which wouldn 't be out of place at a specialist Italian restaurant. We were first in as soon as they opened. Received the menu, had quite a wait to place our orders. We then had an even longer to receive our main courses. Our food was served on just about tepid plates. With the exception of my boiled new potatoes the rest of the vegetables were cold, very hard and undercooked. My monkfish was luke warm. we had quite a wait when we finished our main courses for our plates to be cleared away. We both ordered our desserts from their specials board. While traveling back from Yorkshire, my group and I needed a place to eat on the way home. We only ordered main courses, but the Steak and Ale Pie was really delicious. It came with garden peas, and the portion of chips was so large that we couldn't finish them all. The pie was piping hot and the hand-cut chips with skins on were cooked perfectly. We wish we weren't in the middle of a long journey because we would have loved to try a dessert. The meal was very good value for money and the service was great. We typically enjoy the meals at this restaurant. The ingredients are of good quality, cooked well, and served promptly. However, our recent visit left us disappointed. The starter options were limited to plain cheese, fish-based dishes, and one other option. The slow service, which we have previously tolerated due to the delicious food, now seems unacceptable. This place is fabulous and the food here is exceptional. Really good size portions with interesting and delicious menu choices Evwryone chose something different and everyone was happy with their choice. The meat dishes were cooked to perfection and the desserts delicious. I would come back here again any day . Also the meals arrived quickly and were hot and we were a table of 9 ! Staff were very attentive. Cannot fault
We decided to visit on a Friday night with my brother in law and wife. They come from Manchester; they do not know what they are missing in quality and cost until they come here to Yorkshire! We all had differenct dishes; the meat and fish were well cooked and the taste was excellent. Whenever we eat at the Golden Fleece in Blackley, the food is Always Very Good! Quality and presentation are 5 star!
The young man behind the bar with a dragon tattoo, who I believe said his name was Jase or Jay, was absolutely fantastic. Despite the crowded restaurant, he remained calm and attentive. He was extremely knowledgeable about both gin and wine, which I appreciate as I enjoy both. He always made time to chat with me and my partner. This guy is a valuable asset to the restaurant.
I as recommended this place by a mate, so glad we decided to try it out, on out arrival we were greeted by a very smiley member of staff, it was lovely and Cosey and we’re had a great table.
