Arrived slightly early for our meal and were shown to our table. The pub was almost empty with just another table occupied and a man at the bar. We were asked for our drink order before we had even sat down. The drinks then took an age to come and we could see them on the end of the bar. What the staff were doing when when there was hardly anyone else in is beyond me. Drinks finally delivered. Menu choices were taken some 10 minutes later and the starters arrived aound 15 minutes later. The scallops were tasty especially the crispy chorizo. My husband had the goats cheese which was served with beetroot puree. He said this was tasteless with no taste of beetroot at all. We then sat and waited...
We came here for an evening meal and having not been for sometime we realised it was pre covid since we last came so decided it was time to come back we were so glad we did. The surrounding are as always warm welcoming, our table was ready for us and although we were quite early we had a drink first we’re given some menus and told we could take our seats at our leisure by the wonderful waitress whose name I sadly did not get but was friendly gave great natural service. This was a birthday lunch treat for myself, my partner had got a deal via Groupon, she had been here years ago and had a great evening here. Attended with a friend for a meal. Lovely surroundings, lovely place to catch up with a friend. Always had good meals here until this occasion. The table we sat we at did look clean however it put us off a bit as the table was sticky. The waitress said the sanitiser has taken the varnish off the top of the table making it sticky?? Family of 4 with GROUPON, I had the scallops with chorizo, really enjoyed theses, cooked perfect, husband had duck leg salad, said it was very tasty and a nice size portion. My two boys both enjoyed their starter of soup and prawns. For the main, I had hake with celeriac and pea what a dish, I really enjoyed this they were all cooked perfect and a nice size portion. Our second visit here and we absolutely loved it,the young lady who waited on us was brilliant and the food was amazing, starter's we had the scallops and chorizo and duck leg salad. The scallops were cooked perfectly and my salad was beautiful. We picked fish and chips for our mains and what a choice we made. I can honestly say they were the best I've ever had and I was in the fish and chip shop industry for 10 years, the batter was so crisp and the fish was done to perfection, the chips were proper homemade one's not greasy at all and the mushy peas with a hint of mint were beautiful. Great find, with great food and great staff! Went on a friday night, with a group of my close family. We arrived about half an hour early, and was greeted by a lovely waitress as soon as we walked in and showed us to our table immediately with no wait even though we was early. Drinks all arrived very fast with the waitresses continuing to check to see we needed any more throughout our meal. Food was all very well presented with great tastes. Such an amazing atmosphere and will definitely be visiting the gray ox again!!
Very poor service long wait to order food waitress had a couldn’t care less attitude she was obviously very fed up perhaps the three waitresses who came to tell us she would be with us next had used their time to take orders it would have been a help. Table was very sticky a deep clean might sort that in fact the whole place was extremely tatty Desert menus were given to us you would expect to be asked if we would like to order but after a long wait that didn’t happen we won’t be visiting again Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
What can I say but absolutely superb in every way from the food to the service. Millie our waitress was absolutely brilliant, and the food was amazing,it was my third visit here and it didn't fail to impress. We had the sirloin and sides, absolutely delighted with our choices, and the peppercorn sauce was the best I've had. I would strongly recommend here
