Went in here to have lunch. Was handed a menu that had both breakfast & lunch specials on & was told only the lunch one applied today.Ordered 2 250gram steaks whilst pointing to the menu, plus a bowl of vegetables. We also enquired if the kipfler potatoes had garlic on them as my wife is allergic to garlic.Had to enquire where our food was 40 mins later. Finally out come the steaks. However, they were served with onion rings, not kipfler potatoes as per the menu. We visited this restaurant with friends and family. We had had a bad experience here before and decided to give them a second chance, big mistake! The food is overpriced and very ordinary. Children's meals are $12.50, and even our six year olds were disappointed. One child received a handful of chips with an overcooked piece of fish and nothing else the other a burger with a handful of chips, burger had no sauce, no seasoning, no flavour. Adults meals only slightly better but mostly dry, overcooked and tasteless. Yikes. When you charge $22.50 for fish and chips, you'd expect it to be edible. The fish was one of those overly fishy fish and all three people who tasted it refused to finish their bite! Then there was the ridiculously thick (and slightly burned) batter...Me and a vegetarian ordered a polenta stack with allegedly roasted vegetables and it was awful, insipid and uneatable. It was dripping in vinaigrette and something else that was sour enough that the food almost tasted off. My stomach is turning just thinking of it.What a waste of our hard-earned money... and, the worst bit was, we were still hungry because not one of us finished our meals. We all went to McDonald's to top up!
Close to the Cinemas if you desire a quick bite before your movie. My wife and I had lunch here and were disappointed. I had the "Seafood Basket" whilst my wife had the "Mixed Grilled Platter". The Seafood Basket was very oily and the batter was very thick and tasteless. The scallops and prawns were passable. The Mixed Grill Platter was average to say the least with the beef very chewy but the lamb & chicken ok. Service was very slow even though the premises was almost empty with only four tables in use. There is a variety of dishes to choose from but lacks quality and taste.

Recently had breakfast here. The service was slow considering the restaurant was not busy. The wait staff seemed distracted. This could be due to it being the morning before Christmas. We waited 15 min before i had to call a waiter over to order. I was served tea without milk. Then i ordered the spanish scrambled eggs which were sent to the table without chorizo sausage. Too many mistakes for my liking. But having said this, the breakfast was good.
Ordered the fishermans basket. Where do I start........The fish was so oily it was dripping the batter was burnt couldn't eat it. King prawns more like frozen prawns that you find in a stir fry. Calamari burnt and dry. Will definitely won't be returning!!If your apprentice chef doesn't know what a king prawn is maybe a career change??
Food was pretty good a few years ago but the only thing going for The Groove Train now, is the convenient location opposite the cinemas in Southland.Dry parma, oily and dry batter on the fish, tasteless chips that were not hot, and no dressing on the salad. Terrible
Quality hearty and good portioned food at reasonable prices pretty much sums up what we hadOrdered the egg plant chips and calamari as entree ..
