My husband and I were visiting Bath for the Christmas market and were thrilled to be in town on the same day as old friends we hadn't seen in years due to covid and distance. We decided to try out the Grumpy Baker based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. We spent a few hours at the café with our suitcases, as we were flying home right after lunch. The cashier and waitress at this restaurant were extremely rude and displayed racist behavior. They made shocking comments that were offensive and unwelcoming to black customers. I visited this establishment while looking at houses in the area, but I will never return or consider living here. When I ordered a sandwich with mayo, despite being allergic to it, the cashier was disrespectful and refused to provide a replacement. The manager only offered a partial refund after the situation escalated. The cashier's behavior was aggressive and unprofessional, and when I addressed the issue, she claimed to be protecting her colleagues from black customers. The Grumpy Baker is a wonderful discovery in Oldfield Park. The staff is incredibly friendly and the cakes are scrumptious. The size of the place is just right and I love it. The sandwiches are tasty, although I personally think they are a bit expensive. I did have a minor issue with a not completely clean cup once, but it was a one-time occurrence. Overall, I adore this place and think they are fantastic. The staff is amazing and should never change – they are the best!
Caught my eye yesterday so popped in for a take away coffee, wow! Loved my latte and great that they are open for take away at the moment thank you! This is a fantastic cafe. Staff are brilliant, kind and caring. We are treated just like a family community. The most recent bad review should be ignored. I was there at the tail end of the incident and the lady concerned was not upset but was rude. The staff were very upset and did not deserve the treatment. Your regulars love you all.
First visit to this cafe on Moorland Road and was pleasantly surprised. Although prices are quite high for an out of town cafe the coffee and food were of a good quality. Especially good was the avocado and poached eggs while the full breakfast was fine but nothing exceptional for the price.
Coffee is great, staff are lovely and fast. The cafe has a lovely aesthetic. Since becoming a local to Old Field Park this is our go to coffee spot. Not only do they sell beautiful home made food, such as sandwiches and cakes, they also offer gluten free cake options.

Delicious breakfast in a cosy and stylish cafe, suited both me and my partner as he had a full English and I had poached eggs and avocado on sour dough. Great range of drinks including loose leaf tea, smoothes and milkshakes. Would recommend
