Had high hopes. Have wanted to visit for some time and on entering this pretty village pub we weren’t disappointed at first. My 3/5 is for atmosphere, decor and great staff. Unfortunately, the food really lets everything else down. We both decided to eat Asian style fish… I had the salmon, my husband the swordfish… neither was good . Some sort of paste smothered on both of our fish which we both scrapped off and mine was very average for the price. My husbands was swimming in a very salty, sugary slop! Noodles and new potatoes in the mix, never seen that before and almost inedible. He ate the fish cos he was so hungry!!! Maybe we should have stuck to more traditional pub grub !! A shame beca...
Staff brilliant, food questionable, Camembert not runny due to not cooked enough,chicken wings bbq sauce , chicken was good but sauce very dry , main fish chips excellent, scampi no crispy batter and served only warm, steak ale pie only one or two pieces of meat very disappointing, rack of ribs, meat on ribs good , but bbq sauce dry and was overcooked had a bbq crusty on top instead of a juicy sauce. Ribs presentation was very uninviting . Meal was a shame after the staff were so good. And there is lack of good local pub food in the area.
Fantastic evening meal here with a friend. We hadn’t visited before but really enjoyed our Tottingworth farm steaks. The menu selection was excellent which made it very difficult to choose. The service from the staff really stood out, they provided a very cheerful. friendly, professional and very efficient service. It was a pleasure to be served by them. In fact tried to book again for tonight but fully booked. That’s the downside of writing a positive review! But it’s great to see a local business so popular. We’ll definitely return.
Great visit on Saturday for a late afternoon lunch! We were lucky to get in at 2:45 shortly before they closed service at 3pm! I had a BLT sandwich and fries that was excellent! Wide choice on me ye from classic pub dishes to burgers sandwiches and fish. Great views across the village green from the pubs garden! Visited with friends today fir the first time. Food was fantastic. Two roast dinners, one veggie tart, 2 ribs and I had cod and chips. Unfortunately I had a filthy hangover so not at my best but the food was all wonderfully tasty, piping hot, fresh and plentiful. Staff all lovely and friendly. Lovely beer gardens too. Look forward to returning next time we're visiting.
Always a good pint of beer, thank god more choice than Harvey's bitter and Longman brewery which seems to be the norm for East Sussex pubs. We tried the restaurant last night for an evening meal and it was really good. The staff and service were friendly and attentive.
The new owners are to be congratulated on bringing this pub back to life. However, we had a bad experience food wise, ordering the lunchtime sandwiches. The meat in the sandwiches seemed like stale warmed up leftovers from the previous weekend roasts. Not good.
We went to this lovely pub today for lunch. The staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Fantastic food, lovely service and just an all-round great place. We will definitely be going back! Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We met friends there who come from Norfolk and were on holiday in Kent , we come from West Sussex, we would definitely come again. The staff and food were really good and good value, well done
