I recently enjoyed a boys lunch with 23 business associates set around the pool at this recently upgraded (read fully renovated) restaurant and might I say, I was very impressed.The boys, had been there before and knew some of the staff etc, however, to seat and successfully feed 23 hungry lads, let alone keep them from going dry, is no mean feat.Our food was excellent, bar/ drink service kept up with us all day, and then the price didn't make anyone want to do "the runner" afterwards lol.Credit where due here too, the new owners of The Islander, have taken a very run down, tired, backpacker infested hotel and turned it into a fresh, on trend, lively location and that's without the rooftop b...
Service not great.. although one bar staff in particular Jeff was awesome. Food had no flavour so don’t order the calamari, meatballs or boa. We spent around $300 on food and drinks for a corporate lunch and they could not even accommodate a request of...wanting 3 pork and 3 brisket instead of the mushroom on the boa tasting plate.. the chef commented and said “it’s more expensive to cook pork and brisket” Totally get it but when they are charging the same price for all three options on the menu and for the sake for saving $4 when we have spent so much money over all would have been nice to make a customer happy. The hotel advertises itself as a backpacker hotel, so we did not expect a lot of stuff. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the room and the amenities. I am not sure if families would want to stay here but for us who spent the day mostly outdoors, it did us pretty well. The towels were fresh and the view was nice. All in all a good budget hotel. WiFi is free for first 100 mb and then you get to buy it for a pretty discounted price. The receptionists were pretty helpful and they gave us instructions each morning where to board buses from and they sell the day pass too which was an added advantage. The hotel is a stone's throw from the beach and has a pretty good bar so it was a win win...
As the title states only used the bar for after work drinks. Got there at about 6.00pm and there was only one other group of three there in what is a huge bar area. A little unsettling being able to look into guest rooms which are above the bar. Bar staff trying very hard to be hipster, but over trying and come across as being aloof or arrogant, which i don't think they are. could do with a little more casual/comfortable seating. NOT the place to go if it rains as it is all outside.

The newly renovated islander resort now known as the island was a pleasant surprise. The rooftop bar had a great atmosphere and view for people watching. The best part for us was the meal in the restaurant downstairs. The food was absolutely beautiful as was the service. My husband said he could have cut his steak with a spoon and the pork medallions I had were delicious. We will return!!!
This renovated establishment ozzes casual elegance. Good service, fair prices, handy location. The woodfire pizzas are amazing, comparable to a good quality pizza you would find on a trip to Naples. All other items on the menu we had were lovely. The non-alcoholic cocktails could...probably be missed through.

Its a great Cavill ave dive to roll into straight after a hard night of surfing.
Get a level above 6 so that you dont get the loudness of the vegas strip

Great accommodation for younger groups of a family on a budget. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, all the necessary amenities.
The rooms are a bit outdated but for the price per night I couldn't really complain. Lots of backpackers staying here.
