We arrived as a group of four and saw that there wasn’t any free outdoor tables, so we had expected a wait. However, after putting our name down, one of the waiters brought out tables and chairs for us, so we were basically seated immediately. Not only that, but this place lets you drink your own wine AND WILL GIVE YOU WINE GLASSES FOR IT! The liquor store is literally 20 feet away and most tables had bought wine there for the meal. Our friend brought us to The Islands, her favorite Caribbean spot nearby. The restaurant’s decor is simple and roomy, with plenty of seating available. The menu offers a small selection of signature dishes. We tried the Oxtail with Rice and Beans, Curry Chicken with Steamed Vegetables, and a Salad topped with Jerk Chicken. The portions were generous and reasonably priced, leaving us with leftovers to take home. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the jerk chicken, which was tender and juicy. We were also delighted by the rice and beans—they were full of flavor and had a lovely aroma.
My experience was a good one; customer service was terrific. I thought I was in a different country for a moment, couldn’t believe I was in the U.S! As for the food, the oxtail was ok, tender, and flavorful. The jerk chicken had a good flavor but not a good texture, it seemed like it was sitting too long, and it was tough and dry, yet it was drowning in “gravy!” It’s missing that grilled crispy texture that a broiler or grill would give. I would go back and eat in I want to try their other dishes.
At The Islands, I enjoyed the goat curry along with the plantains, both bursting with rich flavors and served in generous portions. The restaurant offers a warm, cozy ambiance, though it was fairly quiet on a Tuesday evening with just one other table occupied. While the menu isn’t very extensive, every dish is prepared to perfection. The prices are fair, and a great bonus is that The Islands is a BYOB spot!

The food was outstanding—extremely fresh and bursting with flavor. The mac and cheese was flawless, a solid 10 out of 10. The coffee was excellent, presented in adorable little carafes. Our server was exceptionally friendly, and the entire ambiance felt warm and welcoming.
Awful service. Staff is oblivious to your presence. Arrived at 8:45pm. By 10:15pm had still not received any entrees.Finished our bottle of wine waiting. Do not recommend. Many better places in NYC.
THIS PLACE IS BOMB!! I had roti with curry chicken and I cleaned up that plate! The waitress was so sweet and the food came out fast! I’m definitely going back here!
Currently here eating this bomb steam snapper please note that they make everything fresh here so there is a wait time. But trust me guys it is worth the wait.
