Remember this pub as The Star in the past. It's had a superb makeover and is a very attractive, comfortable and welcoming pub. An excellent range of Hydes ales. Good to see a pub that hosts regular live music nights. Named after a former Lord Mayor of Manchester who at one time owned the nearby historic Abney Hall that hosted Prince Albert, Benjamin Disraeli, William Gladstone and Agatha Christie during It's heyday.
Low score as building work is underway and the whole place is a bit dark and depressing. No food offering at the moment. That plus the fact that the two customers in the bar were constantly effing and jeffing did not make for a pleasant lunchtime pint for me and my wife. Beer was ok. We headed for Cheadle Hulme and had a much more agreeable time on Mellor Road.
Like the place, both staff and customers are friendly enough though I'm not a big fan of Hydes ales. The location is great in the centr of Cheadle with a bus stop more or less outside. Plenty of eateries in the area means the James Watt is ideal for meeting before going on elsewhere.
Great little place for a drink in the afternoon, me and my wife loved it and would come again, bit warm in there if I'm being picky,but outdoor smoking area is great and the staff are really quick and professional. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Stopped by ordered two lattes,one tea. Came to a very reasonable £9.30. Bar staff cheerful and attentive. Would probably make this one of my locals if I stayed in Cheadle.
Great selection of draught beers and ciders. Wide selection of spirits, friendly pubs. Dogs allowed. Even have dog treats on the bar, a nice touch.
A good selection of 5 beers all on cask but all from the same brewery. What happened to all the different beers and cans?
