I met some friends at The John for drinks and food and was pleasantly surprised to see a sandwich board outside advertising pints of Indie Ale House Instigator IPA for just $6, all day long. In my experience, bars in Toronto, whether upscale or casual, often have limited happy hour deals featuring rather generic beers. I’m not sure if this IPA special is a regular thing at The John, but they definitely impressed us and made our visit memorable. As expected, we each had three beers and ordered plenty of food. I visited on a summer evening and regretted it immediately. There was no air ventilation, and only a limited fan available for so many people. Our group of 10 waited about 20 minutes for a server, despite calling for assistance multiple times. The place wasn't even crowded. It took 45 minutes just to receive water and our drinks. While the drinks are inexpensive, they certainly weren't worth the time I spent there!
The John Bar on Bloor might look like an unassuming place from the outside, but inside you will enjoy some of the best food you have ever tasted. I still remember the fries I enjoyed there right before the Covid shutdowns. I tried to duplicate them at home, without success, and I am pretty kitchen-savvy. I am happy to see they are open again. Drop in for a pint and a meal. I did, I am happier for it! Cheers!
This restaurant offers a fun and tasty variety of wing flavors—have you ever tried the buffalo orange crush wings? The staff is really friendly, and the kimchi fries are unbelievable—seriously, they’re amazing. The atmosphere is cool and laid-back, making it a great place to hang out. One of the best places for margaritas in the Greater Toronto Area! The fries make for a fantastic snack as well!
