This charming old-fashioned pub hotel is a must-visit for fans of traditional accommodations. I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel twice and would have returned more often if I could only get a reservation. The rooms are varied, but I can only speak to the two styles I have experienced. The gatehouse rooms, located separate from the main building by an archway leading to the car park, were lovely and beautifully furnished. My second stay was in a comfortable room on the first floor of the main building. A colleague stayed in a room on the floor above, which could be described as a loft. I had a great experience at this restaurant located in the quaint town of Melksham. I stayed for a few nights in a B&B and my room, number 10, was on the top floor of the building which made it very hot in the late summer heat. Despite this, the room had a comfortable bed, TV, good wifi, and a nice bathroom with both a bath and shower. The breakfast options were fantastic with several choices to choose from. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. I would give this place a 5 out of 5 for rooms, service, and location.
The restaurant was very pleasant, with a slightly gastro feel... but definitely top-notch. The food was of a very high standard, with the veggie burger being world-class and the rillet being great. The cocktails were fantastic, earning 4 stars. The atmosphere and service were both rated 5 stars, while the location was given a 4-star rating. Overall, the hotel was highlighted for its luxury, romantic ambiance, and great value.
