Descanso once had a decent menu, although it was on the pricey side. However, since the recent remodel, they've eliminated cooked meals entirely and now only offer pre-cooked burgers, chicken fingers, and various snacks kept warm under heat lamps. The space is dominated by 6-8 large refrigerators filled with a bewildering array of beverages, alongside a rather unattractive trailer serving coffee right by the garden entrance. I'm puzzled by the poor planning here—why not offer a bit of everything, fewer refrigerators, and a charming coffee nook instead? While the gardens themselves remain beautiful, these changes have detracted from their overall ambiance.
Such a disappointing lack of effort. Ordered a "grilled ' sandwich. When it came, the bread looked like it had been on the grill for about 5 seconds (basically just bread; nothing grilled about it), the cheese hadn 't melted at all and the other ingredients were cold.I 'd 've taken it back, but I was hungry and just wanted to go home. I wouldn 't even waste my time with a review but the lack of effort was so appalling, and at almost $20 (with tax) it just seemed... noteworthy.
If you want to have a great lunch at Descanso, definitely try the food @The Kitchen. I eat there all the time. The food is fresh and made with quality ingredients. I noticed that cleanliness covid safety is a primary concern. I saw that all the people working in the kitchen wore masks. The menu has a large variety of food choices they offer a number of drinks. There's also a children's menu. You can't go wrong eating at The Kitchen at Descanso.
It appears that this restaurant has new ownership, and unfortunately, the service has declined. The prices for the food are quite high, and the lemonade costs $5 without any refills. It's disappointing because this used to be a fantastic part of the Descanso experience. Everything else about the place is lovely, which makes it even more unfortunate.

On a visit from UK, have been before when they had a Restraunt, not there no only a Cafe.Food ok but overpriced, cold welcome, cold atmosphere.Felt uncomfortable, a female member of staff at ordering hatch unhelpful, I felt I was inconvenienceing her.Gardens lovely, well worth a visit.A haven in the middle of LA madness x
The atmosphere is great. Nice environment. We each had a hot dog, chips,and their yummy pink lemonade. The hot dog was delicious with a nice presentation. More like a designer dog. Pink lemonade is a must here. The only reason I gave 4stars is because of their high prices, otherwise excellent food.
So bad food. Yesterday I ordered the Roasted Chicken saladIt was so oily. While I was eating the sandwich, I smelled bad smell, when I came home I felt so bad, my stomach was killing me. Later on, I thrown up twice, and till now I am feeling so bad.
Great little menu here. Vegan options are limited, but my wife liked the grain salad. I had the Reuben, because no shame, and it was absolutely delish. Little one smacked in an assortment of fruits, pita chips, hummus, and our meals. Kinda pricey.

Very expensive! The food is tasty but very pricy! Spent $60+ on a sandwich and a salad.The kitchen is located in the entry area so anyone can go and eat (you don’t have to pay admission) weekends (especially Sunday are Very busy!!
Over priced sandwiches I wasn't overly impressed due to the cost.Pro Tip: Bring your own food to the Descanso Gardens.
