We went The Deep and Lifestreet museum on Saturday. And we found this place. I checked Tripadvisor and there are so many good reviews. And the opposite pub lady recommended here too. So we just walked in. Fortunately we could have seat. It was amazing. Staffs are all very friendly and good services. Food were amazing. My partner had a cottage pie and I had a fish and chips. He told me the cottage pie was fabulous . My fish and chips was one of my best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Everything was perfect. Nice atmosphere, nice location and fantastic nostalgic interior as well. 10 out of 10. I definitely come back again and May be dinner time next.
We visited yesterday, as my son in law always loves the chance to go for the fish and chips here. Living in Germany, he doesn 't get decent fish and chips often. My Haddock goujons were massive, and beautiful. All the food was excellent, and the service was top notch. Being of advanced years my wife and I got a discount on our bill, which was very welcome. The only slight niggle was the smaller than usual choice of beers, with no dark ones on draught. The ones we had were lovely though, so not a big problem.
On a film-set street, 30 seconds from the hustle and bustle but seems 30 minutes away, lives a gem of an old school pub. This gem has some great beers but its main selling point is the food. The place was packed which was a good sign. We rang the bell on the wall (a nod to the old Irish pub days) and was served some delicious pub style fish and chips. Not been asked “skin on or off” for a long, long time but shows attention to detail. Enjoy!
Another of my occasional visits to Hull and another visit to the Lion Key. And, as before, we were not surprised. Both dishes we had were delicious as were the ales, and the bill represented excellent value for this very high standard of food. I'll repeat my previous comment as it's still totally true: this is where I have had absolutely the BEST fish and chips meal ever, anywhere. Outstanding. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
If you are looking for a lovely pub with great pub food and decent range of beers and lovely service then this is the place. I had the Hull Chippy which had half a haddock, and a fried potato thing and with mushy peas. So bad for the heart but so tasty. My wife had 'half and half ' for the first time with her chilli con carne. Brilliant idea.
I wish I had seen the most recent review mentioning that the restaurant was closed. We had planned to visit, only to find that the place was completely shut down. The outside lights were on at 1pm, but after circling the building, there was no way to get inside.
The Lion and Key never fails me. Good food, lovely staff and a comfortable place to be in. The menu has changed since COVID but even so the quality and choice of food is varied and freshly prepared. This is a regular haunt of mine and I hope will remain so.
Great pub with very helpful and friendly staff. Went with a group of 5 total idiots after we cycled from Leeds and the staff were great . Special mention for Phoebe and Kayley for their patience : Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Called in for lunch. Lovely old style pub with interesting decor. Staff friendly, good selection of drinks/ales. Good menu with some original local style dishes.
