Just left Merion inn. Sunday May 23rd. Got there at 5 pm. We were out of this dump be 5:45. . We read the reviews and liked what we saw, so we tried it. This place was like the twilight zone. First bad sign was our clueless server wanted to take our food order, wine order and cocktail order at the same time.. we were not sitting 10 minutes yet. Did not even look at menu yet! My family has been coming here for literally decades! My grandparents started coming here, then my parents, and then my parents started bringing my sister and I here for as long as I can remember. I was thrilled that they offer outdoor dining during the pandemic. They also accept reservations but the seating is more limited, so be sure to make a reservation in advance. The outdoor seating is super cute. They have a tent as well as several tables with umbrellas. If you are looking for a classic meal and a nice dinner out, this is your spot. On this, our first visit to Cape May, my wife and I joined friends to dine at one of the oldest and most well known restaurants in town, The Merion Inn. Since it was a Saturday night, we had reservations well in advance. Good thing too, because they do such a great business, they're turning customers away by the end of the night. I had a fantastic evening at the Merion Inn! I managed to get a same-day reservation for three at 5 PM. We arrived a bit early and decided to sit at the bar for drinks while we waited. Our bartender, Cody, was attentive and very welcoming. By 5:10, we were seated and ready to enjoy their Early Bird special, which offers three courses for just $29. We kicked things off with a bottle of wine and savored a delicious meal from beginning to end. We were so full that we took leftovers home! Over the past two years, every entree I've tried has been beautifully and creatively prepared. The cocktails are excellent and reasonably priced, and the bar area features comfortable seating. There’s even a piano player! On my most recent visit on November 22, 2019, I had the squash soup, which was both luxurious and delicious. Then I enjoyed the stuffed lobster tail—where the lobster is chopped, mixed with other ingredients, and served back in the shell as a warm salad. I RARELY leave reviews on restaurants. I am a firm believer that even if you get poor service, that most likely someone is having a hard day and I can accept that. My husband and I are here in Cape May for a birding trip. The food was overall pretty good, but the service was deplorable. We waited at our table for almost 30 minutes for water, then our waitress seemed to dodge us for no apparent reason. I realize this pandemic has been difficult on restaurants, but this was nothing short of ridiculous.
Came here last weekend for my birthday dinner and thought it was absolutely delicious. I wanted a place with a cute outdoor patio, plenty of dessert options, and a good menu this was the perfect place : Most nice restaurants in Cape May are filled with Fish and Steak, I chose this place because they had both a chicken and a vegetable dish to choose from. Food was really good. So was the staff. I'd say it's more 3.5 stars since the drinks weren't very good. Grabbed the escargot with puff pastry, it was delicious. MY main course: pork chop with this corn-chorizo mix it was sooo good. I ordered a Moscow mule, which was very meh. It wasn't busy since we came early around 530, so not sure the reason. My kids ordered Shirley temples, I get they are kids drinks but come on.
