We stopped off here for lunch on our trip to the coast. The chap who was by the entrance was welcoming and friendly but that's where it ended. We approached the cafe and the long faced staff weren't welcoming at all. We were asked if we had booked...well obviously not, it's a garden centre. We were then told we could sit outside the main part even though inside was barely full. We decided on a drink as the food was ridiculously priced. Friends had tea which they said was fine but my coffee was awful. On paying my friend was met with a very abrupt member of staff who was rather rude to her. The moral of this story is....don't bother. It's not worth it to be ripped off and to not be made welco...
My husband and I went to the garden center to buy a good trowel and decided to stop in for a coffee and sandwich. We used to frequent this cafe about 5 or 6 years ago and it was a favorite of my mother's. Unfortunately, the atmosphere in the cafe/restaurant seems to have changed. A man waiting to be seated was ignored for over 5 minutes until we encouraged him to walk past the 'wait to be seated' sign, at which point he was finally noticed. We were seated shortly after. The waitress was very pleasant, no issues there. However, the lunch menu was quite boring and the prices were high for the average food offered. We were so disappointed that after looking at the menus, we decided not to stay....
Initially impressed then reality set in. First question asked was “Any allergies?”. Answering that I was Coeliac a metal bee was placed on the table (signifying an allergy) and I was presented with the food ingredient bible. Reality was that all they could offer was white GF bread as an alternative to Bloomer bread sandwiches and Ciabatta for a Panini. Just how difficult is it to have frozen GF bakery items for Coeliacs. Ciabattas and Pittas defrost in the same time it takes to toast a slice of bread. GF Yorkshire puddings cook from frozen in about 4 minutes. Four of us went in for coffee and food/a snack. One of us wanted food before coffee. When the waitress arrived, she was stony-faced. She said she was only taking drinks orders. She refused to take a food order. A second waitress came, also stony-faced, to take food orders. She refused to take drink orders. Our order was ok when it came and it came quite quickly but I go out to eat/have coffee to enjoy the experience. I have never seen a better garden center and cafe than this one. It is absolutely beautiful. The cafe is incredible and offers everything from full meals to afternoon tea. My friends and I opted for cakes and pots of tea, and we were not disappointed. The cakes were outstanding, with plenty of options to choose from. I also purchased a couple of reasonably priced plants here. Overall, an excellent place to visit. - Anne Walker
The mackerel and salad with tartare sauce were excellent, blending together for a delightful mix of flavors. The staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful. While the prices were not cheap, the experience was definitely worth it. The restaurant was clean, including the restrooms. It was also very child-friendly with plenty of smiles all around. I highly recommend this place.
Shocking service, staff told us wrong specials, limited menu meant we decided to go elsewhere after our drinks. Made worse by being called back in to the cafe 5 minutes after paying to be told the note was fake. I feel absolutely scammed as there was no way of proving it was the note I’d paid with and the note had come from a cash machine the day before! Avoid the place!
£11.25 for a sandwich! I feel for anyone who visits and are on a budget ! £10 for a regular sandwich (we had warm ciabatta) it was nice but they really should re think their prices. At the end of the day it’s a cafe in a garden centre. The cakes and brownies looked very tempting I think next time we visit we’ll have coffee and cake Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Olive tree is lovely eating place, especially after a walk with friends. The food is top notch ….everything about this eating establishment astounds me, standards are excellent ….quality of the food, friendly staff, it’s clean and warm with no blaring music ….I would recommend eating here to anyone who likes eating out.
