Out for a Friday night with five friends. Food was nicely presented and hot. The staff were very attentive. The ambience of the dining area was very nice and comfortable. BUT the menu given to us at the table, was nothing like the menu online, when you read the menu online and you get really excited about what you’re going to order for the evening meal and when you arrive and they present you with a mediocre pub grub type menu, it was very disappointing and frustrating. The headwaiter came to our table to apologise given that they hadn’t updated the website because they were busy, this is totally unacceptable. Haven’t worked in the business all my adult life. I have mixed thoughts about the Orepool some good some not so good. To start with the positive all four of us thought the food was excellent and based on that alone I would go again. Unfortunately, taking the experience as a whole I would not return. No clear indication on how to check in so we eventually went to the bar and waited and waited. Service was slow but we were finally pointed in the direction of our table. We were in an alcove with a large family birthday party with several children. The children were delightful and chatty but the party was noisy and as we were obviously four friends out for an evening not the best place to sit us. My husband and I have been visiting the Forest of Dean for more than 30 years. We can't believe we only recently discovered this fantastic place. The staff are welcoming and helpful, and the food is both delicious and reasonably priced. If you're in the mood for a high-quality, homemade steak and ale pie, this is the spot to visit. The chef prepares them on site and they are filled with meat. I would also suggest trying their roast dinners. We are excited for many more visits in the future.
The service at this restaurant was top-notch and the food was absolutely incredible! We had a request for an extra pot of homemade piccalilli that was fulfilled without any issue. The Orepool Ajax dish was highly recommended and I'm so happy I chose it for lunch with my family today. We’ve just come back from a fantastic meal for 42 people at the orepool! The staff went above and beyond for my autistic fussy child. The meal was delicious, hot and plenty of it. Service brilliant. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you all.
We stayed at a nearby cottage for my wife's birthday and decided to try this restaurant at 6pm without any expectations. The meal was fantastic and our server, Lydia, was extremely friendly and helpful, always with a smile on her face.
The Orepool is consistently our go-to spot for Sunday lunch with our family, and today's meal was once again outstanding. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Special thanks to Becky James for a wonderful experience.
