Player’s Retreat is a favorite restaurant of mine. It is not the usual pub food, but several notches above with always delicious food and special chef offerings in addition to the standard menu. I go as often as I can go this Raleigh institution.

Always get the Burger Lol. One of the better burgers in Raleigh. Great fries and beer selection. I've been here a long time. Large outdoor seating from the rain... have to show vaccine card to eat inside. Really helps to eat again.
Nice bar. Stopped in randomly for a beer and some fries. Started here and found more bars lol. If you're looking for the party scene go to glenwood not walking distance but still a cool spot to visit.

Total average bar food. Nothing to walk home, but I have some friends who love it for the atmosphere. I find it more of a historic NC state hub than a foodie place.
Nice dinner with friends. We brought cake and the girl helped us to pack all the leftovers. The food was very good.
Delicious meal. Great service. Chilly inside with the windows open. I was glad I had a jacket.
