My family and I were on a trip and decided to have dinner at a local pub. The staff were friendly and welcoming when we arrived. We ordered buffalo chicken wings, tempura prawns, and nachos as starters from a menu that looked promising. However, we were disappointed with the portion sizes - only 4 tempura prawns, 3 wings, and a small bowl of nachos with squirty cream and runny guacamole. The dishes were overpriced at £8 each and did not meet our expectations. We decided to return to our accommodation for dinner instead, as we felt it would be a better option than spending more money on expensive food. To add to our disappointment, we were overcharged for our drinks, resulting in a bill of £4...
Googled the opening time and it said opens at 5pm, walked there from Airbnb we stayed at and the sign outside said open from 12pm till 11pm. Dog friendly which was nice, however, I ordered a pint of tap water for my daughter and a pint of Coke Zero for me… £7.50. Not sure if that’s the going rate in these parts but I thought that was very expensive. Plus, I’m not sure my Coke Zero pint was just coke, it had a Jack Daniel's whiff and tasted like it had something other than coke in it. Specifically asked for Coke Zero. Didn’t want to ask as to not seem silly, but has put me off going for drinks again. Shame as it’s the only pub in the village.
We walked all the way from Carterton yesterday with our dog specifically to visit the plough. Unfortunately when we arrived at 1:30 on a Thursday it wasn't open even though both Google and their website stated it should have been. We then had to make the long trek back to Carterton to get some lunch as there are no other pubs in the area which was a good hour back. My advice, ring to check if they are open before visiting. Or they could update the opening on the website.
We used to frequent this pub about a year ago on our way back from Bampton Garden Centre. However, it was taken over and we were denied even a drink because we hadn't made a reservation. I'm happy to report that the pub now has new management and has returned to its old, friendly self. It has a lovely homely atmosphere and offers a more traditional menu with very freshly prepared food. We look forward to visiting again on our next trip to Bampton.

We had a table booked for Sunday lunch upon arriving there were hardly any vehicles in car park, which wasn't a good sign the doors were all locked up in complete darkness. Nothing on blackboard at the front, no signs on either door to say shut. Window upstairs were open. If unable to open a sign on the doors also social media would be helpful
My husband rang to book a table just over a week ago as we had invited friends to have lunch with us. We arrived today at 1pm to find it was all locked up and closed. It would have been nice for someone to give us a call to save us travelling there. We were lucky we knew of a very reliable pub not far away
Sorry for any inconvenience for when the pub was shut, it’s now reopening under new management and our opening hours is as follows Wednesday- Saturday 12:00- 23:00 Sunday 12:00- 17:00 Monday and Tuesday we are closed. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are next passing
During our recent holiday in the area, my wife and I had a delightful meal at this restaurant. The food was top-notch and the staff were incredibly warm and attentive. We truly appreciate the wonderful evening we had. Thank you!
