Such a massive let down...... We went on Saturday 9th Dec. 2 couples who met half way between where we all live, both couples travelled an hour to meet in the middle. We were given a rather small table for 4 people, my friend he's a big guy across the shoulders) was practically sitting in a huge plastic plant. The guys both ordered whitebait as starters. After 30+ mins a man I'm thinking he may have been a chef as he was very sweaty) came and told us that the waitress who'd taken our order had somehow missed the order for the 2 whitebait starters, and they'd already plated our mains and we felt very pressured to forego the 2 starters and go straight to our 4 main courses. Great food, terrible service. We met friends, 9 of us in total, sat at table booked at 2.30pm, we ordered food which was good. But we stayed until 7pm, some of us were driving, but still had several soft drinks, some drank a bottle of wine , some cocktails and some beers. At no point were any of the empty glasses collected, the staff bringing food and more drinks walked away empty handed. The table was full of empties, so I cleared the table myself. We met family from across the Penines at this pub. It was convenient. The first thing to mention is be aware that the car park is in the hands of a parking company and if you don't enter your registration in the pub you will finish your meal with a hefty fine. You have been warned On a positive note the pub was warm and friendly. The table could have been larger and we had to get rid of wine glasses to make room for 6 people. The food was OK. A bit pricey but OK. and they had a few decent beers on the bar. We had our meal and chattered for a while without anyone hastling about needing the table and no one was fined for missing booking into the car park. We will go again because it is conveni...
Very poor service, not able to order additional drinks or a desert despite chasing very rude and helpful staff. Staff standing round the bar ignoring customers and not following orders or bothering to take orders despite chasing. The food is generally good however the service is shocking. This is not the first time I experienced poor service from this establishment and won’t be recommending or returning. I prefer to spend my money with local business that values its customers and actually serves them. The management are not interested and not bothered to cater to families or in general taking orders.

Terrible service, failed to bring drinks orders or take desert orders following a Sunday lunch. Chased several times, contacted the pub failed to respond. Staff stood around the bar chatting, not busy at all. The food is generally good however the red lion is known for their disinterested staff and poor service. I will be spending my money in a local business such as the The Crown or the Horse Shoe that actually values customers and actually serves them!
Food was OK had to wait a while before order was taken. My main concern though was because we were not using wine glasses these were removed and put back on shelves for re using. Did should never happen anything that is put on the table should be washed if not used particularly under the present climate. Most restaurants abide by this rule.
Wonderful surroundings and good food. There was so much pie I wrapped it up to take home, unfortunately it was cleared up by the waitress and thought it was lost but the lovely staff gave me a whole fresh pie to take home, totally unexpected and just shows how the staff go the extra mile,
Beautiful village restaurant and bar serving excellent food especially Sunday lunches. The meat melts in your mouth with home made crispy Yorkshire puddings ! Lovely atmosphere and friendly attentive staff definitely will be back. Heard the breakfast is excellent will have to try next.

This is such a nice pub with lovely food snd coffee. I often go in long dog walks up to Lyme park as my mum lives round the corner from this place and I enjoy calling in for a coffee after a long winter walk
As someone who has recently become allergic to dairy and egg, the main meal that I had was absolutely fantastic! And so was the pudding Would definitely return!
