We had lunch at The Rowan with another couple and everyone enjoyed their meal. The restaurant is not large but the tables are spread out well enough to afford privacy in conversation. Service is great. Prices are a bit high but the quality of the food is good. We ordered fish and chips (haddock) with turnip slaw for $17, and a pastrami sandwich with fries for $18. My cocktail Beautiful Fool cost $9 and my husband's Large Bicycle IPA beer was $7. My husband loved his sandwich, claiming it was the best pastrami he's ever had. We had the pleasure of dining at the Rowan last night. We can all say that we enjoyed the food and there were unique flavors and tastes with each dish. We shared the beet fritters and grilled cauliflower salad. The beet fritter were ok on their own but you definitely needed to add the condiment ...sauce, olives and the especially the mint to enjoy the dish. Two of us had the trout and my husband ordered the pork pie. The trout was perfect. It just melted in your mouth with each bite. There was a red pepper sauce with a bit of a bite. My husband and I took a chance and walked in without a reservation. As luck would have it we got in and got a window seat to boot!Before we sat down we asked if they could accommodate vegan options. We both ordered from the vegetarian choices. I ordered the Grilled Tofu and Tabbouleh Salad (requesting vegan) and my husband ordered the Fenugreek Dahl and Aubergine Fritters. Wow!! While visiting the city we had hoped to have a quiet romantic night out with excellent food & drinks, and that's exactly what we got! We nestled into a booth & had the most attentive server who steered us in the right direction regarding the bf's celiac diet requirements. We split the roasted cauliflower & corn apps. They were both perfection. So beautifully presented, with so many flavours & textures. I just don't see the big deal. I came on a Saturday night with a few friends and we ordered a bunch of drinks, plates and desserts. Wanting to try it all. Service was good. But Everything I ate I would never crave or want again. That's for me what separates the places I try once or go back to. The cheese plate was like $18 or something for maybe $2 of cheese...very little of it and nothing too good. I left feeling like I spent $75 on a bunch of meh things. On the bright side, the decor is nice and funky, and dessert was good. I know rent is high in this hood, so maybe that's where the value is lost.
We were looking for an original and cheap restaurant for dinner thanks to the comments, so we went to this establishmentuper reception and we chose our table without having booked the card is not too big but there is for all tastesThe dishes are really good and we recognize a dish of cook desserts are nice, good and original the addition is not very high even with some will return to it.
Tried this place on a Friday night. The service was impeccable. Food was delicious. The main trout filet was really tasty. The Chicken croquettes were good but a little bland I found. Also tried their pub chips which were a nice little snack to start. I'd definitely eat here again and would recommend this restaurant.
We had the pleasure of dining on Sunday evening with family while visiting Ottawa! While the decor was rather understated, the dishes were quite innovative and delicious! We visited the Rowan and had a great evening. We sat at the bar and found the staff to be engaging and very friendly. The food was excellent. Nice restaurant and recommended.
