I'm delighted to see The Rupee Room is already on Yelp! I grew up in Ayrshire and still take an annual holiday to visit the family there. Indian meals were always an occasional treat for the family, but I always felt we had something of an uneasy relationship with Indian places and never really settled on a favourite. Now, however, The Rupee Room is firmly established as our family's go to place for Indian. *From the perspective of a Canadian tourist* Came here for dinner around 7pm on a sunny Thursday in May with two friends I was staying with. After a week of eating in mostly pubs and more generic restaurants, I was excited to get some flavor so asked if we could try here. I normally love Indian food and haven't had much bad experience with it, and this place was on the better end of any Indian restaurant I've eaten at in Canada. Simple, warm atmosphere with basic wooden tables, very clean. I would guess seating for 20+ in the main dining section we were in, plus there was another room off to the side which I didn't look into, so that may hold a fair bit more. Stayed at the Berkeley, which is literally a few feet from here and love it. Service was some of the best we had over 8 days in Scotland. Food was even better. We eat Indian in the states all the time and I can tell you this was hands down the best garlic naan we've ever tasted. Curry was great as well. Not the best Tikka Masala I've had but was still ok. Portions were very generous. A bit on the pricey side as a pint of Kingfisher was £4.50 but we got out of there for under £70. Highly recommend! Make sure and make a booking as we walked by this place every night for 3 nights and it was crowded every time.
Quick update on previous review: The new price for the revamped 3 course set lunch menu is £9.95, so not quite the deal it used to be but still fair value plus they throw in a popadum and chutney on top of that. A pint of Kingfisher lager is a whopping £4.50! Food is still pretty decent, the staff are friendly and there are no tablecloths to worry about if you're a messy eater like me. Dinner here was lovely. 2 mild curries and a hot one. Used the gourmet society card so it was buy one get one free which was a good bonus. Place was packed so that was a good sign. The reason for one star off was the staff. The waiters were a little rude. The attitude towards getting mild curries was a little too much put a downer on the service. One point is that this place has easily the best nan bread we had ever tried! Amazing.
The first Indian restaurant I have eaten at was the rupee room. Since then I have tried curry at every restaurant I have visited in the EU as well as the greatest country on earth But nothing will ever compare to the rupee room. Keep up the good work guys. A very fond memory... We ordered take so often that they started to throw in free samples of food that was available on the menu.
Happened upon this place for an early dinner. The menu boasts a number of different curries and other Indian specialties. The food was fresh and delicious. Our waiter, Umesh, couldn't have been more accommodating to our dietary restrictions and ensured every detail exceeded expectations. We had a lovely time and truly appreciated an exceptional meal and experience. Highly recommend!
Had a booking for 14 people at 2100 turned up at 2100 and was told we would have to wait until 2130. Waiter was extremely unpleasant and had a real attitude problem as he then started ushering us outside to wait in the 2C night air. Will certainly not be back customer service 0. Excellent indian food and a very cosy atmosphere. Special ealy bird menu, and cheaper lunch time offer. A Brill place to enjoy good food. Highly reccommended.
