So I literally flew from Seattle to Brisbane enduring 17 hours in various airplanes arriving this morning and The Scratch was the first place I went to.Was it worth it? Absolutely.Admittedly, I do have some business to attend to next week which was why I traveled here. The pub was a really nice treat. I had a locally brewed darker beer, very hoppy in style that was grand. I think there were 8 taps of local (including New Zealand) I sampled a couple. Will go back later to try some more.They only serve beer, peanuts, and cheese (must be a local thing) but the sign says you can bring your own food and there are plenty of nearby places to score some.This is a must visit if you like beer and are...
When I first started going to The Scratch I was nervous the ever-changing menu meant I could never be sure I'd find something I like. I couldn't have been more wrong.The staff are excellent and always willing to help you select a drink you'll enjoy. The atmosphere in the bar is exactly what I'm after when I want to catch up with some mates over drinks. It's relaxed, comfortable and warm. The board games they have are always a good time too.Basically if you love good beer, trying new beers or hanging out with people who like either of those things then this is the place you want to be; also, the food is fantastic if you love free peanuts.
My husband and I stopped here as apart of the Foodi.com Beer tour. It was the first bar on the tour and the meeting point. We headed inside and were welcomed by the professional staff that you can clearly tell have a passion for the brew. We sampled 6 beers on tap that day and were treated to a great exploitation on each. The kegs are from small and local brewers and once they run out new kegs/beer are put on. So this place is a great stop to sample some different beers and be entertained with the knowledge from the staff. We did not eat here but I saw they had cheese plates available for order.
I love this place! You can pick from all their different current beer brews (and if I understood correctly, they have new beer brands every week or so). They have free peanuts and free board games you can use at your table with your friends. Walls are full of paintings and there are a bunch of cozy sofas you can sit on. Music level is not too high.Atmosphere is cozy, not too much noise and it's really more of a place to catch up with your mates over a good (different than usual) beer than party hard! The team at The Scratch have worked so hard to build up a great line up of beers from around Australia and overseas. Excellent range - always able to buy a beer or three when I visit without having to compromise. They are always ready to talk about the craft and assist the novice (or experienced) beer connoisseur. Being able to BYO food is a bonus as it allows you to bring in your favourite food and match it with a selection from the tap or in the fridge.Looking forward to when you can fill a growler or two to take home.
Well this place totally sucks - it is in the shadow of the mighty XXXX brewery, but does it serve Queensland's finest? No! They serve all sorts of crafty, beardy, hipster nonsense. When I requested a Pina Colada they actually laughed at me.The atmosphere is terrible with too many people talking excitedly and having far too good a time. The furniture looks like it is all second-hand and the decor is decidedly disturbing. And, to crown it all off, they don't even sell crisps.
If you love your craft beer this is one of the best places to go in Brisbane. They don't do a lot of food but allow you to bring in meals from neighboring restaurants which is handy. But what this place is really about is the beer. One of the best selections of craft beer from all over the world. Brilliant.
Great atmosphere with great beer. Staff were friendly and helpful. Free peanuts which tasted great with our beers. We were here on a Friday night before the football so it was quite busy but not crowded. We ordered Thai from the restaurant next door and they delivered to our table. Went there... In fact we all met there as a group for beer tour. Learnt about the making of beer and sampled all on tap. Beers change regularly, and about every couple of weeks. Followed it up with a full glass of what you liked best before walking to next place.
