The stonhouse is nicely tucked away from the high street so tends to be slightly calmer than the rowdy bars on the main road. They have a nice beer garden that is lovely in the summer. We were looking for somewhere to have our Xmas party and decided on this place because of the decent menu choices and good value. We went for an early sitting so we could get 3 courses for £20, a bargain leaving us with plenty of money left over in our budget for drinks! the burger is massive and ingenious! I went to dinner with my friend to celebrate his birthday. we have every beer and decided to share the cold meat plate so that it begins. while I couldn't say what each ding was, they were very delicious. then we decided to get a stater and a main and jump dessert. I got the squid with which I very tasty and the burger for my pornstar. it was also delicious, but huge! the patty was twice as big as what you usually get, and it would have been impossible to eat without knives and forks. This is a decent little pub in Clapham, but away from the hubbub of the high street. Great place to visit on a Friday or sat if you want a few drinks without a raucous crowd – although it can get pretty full, pretty quickly. The menu is decent, however it is caught a little between good pub grub and high end gastro – it lands somewhere between the two so although I enjoyed the bourbon BBQ beef brisket, at £14, for the portion, it wasn't fantastic value
Actually, I didn't expect much. in the search for the menu the prices for the food they offer were extremely favorable. I was flying away! the stonhouse seasons and pairs her main protein with the perfect sides. seabass with bratkartoffels and saphir? it sounds strange, but it tastes amazing. this place is located directly on the corner of my house and has become my local visit to the restaurant.
Oh don't get another gastropub. but this is really good. had the chicken carving with fries and koleslaw. carving was crunchy, reasonable size of the fries. coleslaw was so. many weeping, appetizing, no pudding and since it is 50% outside of eating in januar, so over £120 service for four. the best. the personal. friendly, knowledgeable, fast. it's a little off the high road, but worth a visit.
...conspicuously absent on the main drag is a good old Gastro pub. Wander down the right side street, however, and you might just stumble across The Stonhouse . A member of the Renaissance Pubs family, if it weren’t for the evidently Claphamite clientele The Stonhouse – with its dog friendly policy, old style wooden furnishings and crackling fireplaces – could almost be a local country pub.
delicious food, I highly recommend the fish and chips and the mushroom aranchini balls for starters were fantastic. the liquid desserts are also as tasty, a little expensive, but a nice twist! dog-friendly I would recommend to sit outside in the tent area, there is a beautiful atmosphere with the fairy lights and heating.
visits the stonhouse for dinner with friends at the weekend. the venue is from the main tow on the clapham high street and was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. the pub is traditional and retains its Victorian heritage features like its kamin, not to mention a beautiful beer.
Overall, we had a leisurely, relaxed dinner. The service was friendly and fast. There was no pressure to leave after we finished so we stayed on and enjoyed some more cocktails. It was a comfortable place to spend the evening with both good food and a place to drink.
