Thankfully we only went for dinner, or at least we tried. It would seem that the Stump Cross has gone down hill since I last ate there in 2016-ish. The interior now looks very tired, there is tape sticking down carpets, it feels very sparse. All in all, it feels like a down-market Toby Carver but more expensive (and you don’t get any food, more to follow on that)! We went for a Sunday roast however it was just a bog-standard carvery. Not to worry we thought, the menu online seems to imply quite “posh” food. I had a wonderful experience at this pub! The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely—truly a complete package. I learned that the pub has a rich history, having once been owned by the Lister family, making it a great stop for anyone interested in Lister heritage while in Halifax. It's conveniently located just across from Shibden Hall, making it the perfect place to grab a bite and a drink after exploring the area. Plus, it's dog-friendly, offering free treats and a special dog menu! I've had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant over the years, and it has always been a wonderful experience. The staff are consistently cheerful and provide excellent service, and the food is fantastic. The restaurant is usually bustling with activity, but the service remains prompt and efficient. A heartfelt thank you for their continued dedication to quality; it's truly appreciated!

I had steak with Yorkshire pudding at the pub. It was delicious and valued for money. Staff was attentive. She noted it was a bit difficult for me to use a butter knife to cut the steak, she asked if I needed a sharper one. Impressed!
Such a wide selection of food, Was so hard to choose from as it all sounded so nice! The food itself was lovely and very well presented! The staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning to try more off the menu!
