This was probably the worst Sunday lunch experience ever. I went here with my son and grandson and probably waited 10 minutes to just find out if they had a table for us. That should have been a warning sign as it didn 't look very busy. We were then shown upstairs by a friendly waitress to our table, we then waited another 15 minutes before she came to ask if we wanted drinks, we told her we also wanted to order food at the same time as we had a 2 year old with us. There were 2 other tables with people at them. The drinks arrived and then a while later the food arrived. Under new management which is an immense improvement on the previous 'team ' who almost ran it into the ground and they 're gradually finding their feet and building local allegiance back up. Back on the menu are the popular sausages although these apparently come from Storrington which is somewhat of a surprise as Emsworth has 2 butchers who both sell/produce great sausages. We tried the pies and I have to say we were a little underwhelmed. Our Chicken, Leek Ham Pies were lacking in flavour, and Leeks, and with a token teaspoon of Mushy Peas`but with a very nice gravy. Had a fantastic lunch in The Sussex, between my husband and I we shared the charcuterie board absolutely fantastic, we would definitely recommend this. Fantastic new owners and absolutely welcoming and friendly. Also, the pub felt welcoming. Thank you for a great Saturday afternoon.
Great old pub but terrible food, we left without eating it as it was soggy tinned/frozen veg that were cold along with everything else on the cold plate. Other dinners were also complaining. Even the potato was soggy. Looked disgusting and not fit for consumption.

The waitress was very friendly and attentive, however having to wait for an hour for our food is not good. When the food finally arrived it was edible. It was a bit weird to be served pork crackling with beef and beef gravy with chicken. The food itself was bland
Friendly and attentive nothing too much trouble. Good food and choice of drinks. We first visited with our family and two young grandchildren and enjoyed the experience so much that our next visit was just the two of us and it won’t be our last
The new management have turned this pub into a proper local. Good priced alcohol and amazing food,large portions of quality locally sourced produce Long May the revival of the Sussex Brewery continue Hats of to Tom and Chris
Finally once again in good hands under the guidance of Tom, Chris and their friendly crew. Lovely roast and great service. The Sussex is an Emsworth gem that has rediscovered its shimmer

Spent a relaxing afternoon in the Snug with friends. The beer and food were excellent. Good luck to the new owners. Thoroughly recommend the meat pie. It was delicious.
