We were staying in one of the cottages, but the menu there had not been updated, so we had chosen our favorite dish in advance, only to find out it was unavailable. Instead, we ordered the salt and pepper squid, which was enjoyable, though it was overly topped with spring onions. The chicken supreme was delightful, but it would have been better with some potatoes and additional French beans on the side. I was not particularly impressed with the dessert options or the cheese board, especially considering the offerings at the farmhouse; having a wider selection of cheeses would have been wonderful! We thoroughly enjoyed the starters, especially the chicken terrine, which was bursting with fantastic flavors and expertly prepared. The main courses were decent, but they were unfortunately marred by frozen fish that tasted similar to what you'd find in a supermarket. The “tagliatelle” was particularly disappointing; it was mushy and resembled baby food, with the only flavor coming from wilted spinach. I couldn't even finish it. We didn't have the chance to try the desserts, so I can't comment on those. Although it was a Sunday it was also Christmas Eve so was hoping for a more extensive menu. Two roast dinner choices, two veggie options (nut roast and plant burger) and that was it apart from a cheeseburger. Hake option was off. Not much Christmas atmosphere. Chairs were small and hard. Almost like being back at school in the 60’s. Yes, I’m old enough to remember. Food was good as was service. There are better places to eat locally.
We've visited three times, and the quality of the food has been inconsistent. There are moments when it's great, but more often than not, it's hit or miss. This past Sunday, the nut roast was quite dry, and the roast beef was really tough. The website clearly showed a New Year’s Eve menu but we was given a Sunday roast menu with minimal choice other than a Sunday roast. We asked for triple cooked chips instead of fries when taking our order to later be told they didn’t have any. Ordered a bottle of wine and had to pour it ourselves but was expected to pay the 10% service charge!
Crispy white bait wasn't crispy more slim than crisp. Sent back 17oz steak to share, wasn't asked how we'd like it, it came out alive!! Rare!! Sent back. Very disappointing. Apparently there was a big table upstairs which seemed to be taking priority over everyone else. It's a shame as the venue is really nice.
My first visit to the Three Daggers. Excellent service from Daisy, good honest food but would like more veg, warm and comfortable. Will be back!
