This place has gone seriously downhill. Went yesterday for lunch. I ordered the club sandwich. Overcooked, dry chicken and greasy bacon I left half of it. Husband ordered the cheese and onion pie with chips. He was expecting a shortcrust pastry pie. What he got was a very small pasty, so not a pie at all with a small ramekin of chips. The food is now poor when it used to be great. £12.95 for that pie and chips and £9.95 for the sandwich, both awful value for money. There was no customer service in terms of someone asking if everything with the food was okay, that wasn't because they were run off their feet there was about six other people in the place. 12noon customers including me waiting on the platform to go to the bar told bar not ready yet come back in a couple of minutes went back been in meetings all morning! Once we were allowed to the bar the manager I assume red haired lady and a male bar tender were sharp and surly not welcoming at all. My wife was sat at a table for 6 plus waiting for friends this manager passed by and said is there just the two of you on that table? The food was once very good now just passable as food what is happening? It is a shame because the beer is good but the attitude of staff is not welcoming and rude and we won’t be going there again if it does not improve.
Table Service none-existent, queuing at the bar to place order, self-collect your own condiment bucket plus extra cutlery. “Table Service-please let a member of staff know you would like to order food and we will take your order at the table” no signs of this evident. Really basic pub food presented poorly. “All our Food is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients” This statement is questionable. Avoid dining if there is a dining carriage experience on the platform as they take priority, complain about the service/food and you get attitude.
Wanted a quick bite to eat and a drink so chose this place. Busy due to bank holiday event at the station. Good choice of hand pulled and keg beers and nice railway ambience with vintage steam engine at the platform, but unfortunately food was a disappointment. Server was receptive to our comments and tried his best to help us which was appreciated. Would recommend for a drink and interesting surroundings but maybe not for food. We had a great time during our visit today. We have been here many times before but never tried the food until now. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious, especially the chicken chasseur that my sister ordered and thoroughly enjoyed. Everything was served hot and fresh. We had a great time watching the steam trains while we ate, which was very entertaining. I would highly recommend this place.
Oh no. Going downhill fast. School holidays!! But no food!!! Ahhhh!!!! It seems I need to write at least 100 characters. But the less said, the better!!!!!
I went to this restaurant for breakfast but immediately left because it had a strong unpleasant smell that reminded me of old beer and grease.

What a wonderful place this is. Fantastic beer, superb staff and what a way to watch the trains go by.
