Both positive and negative sides to our stay here, but overal dissapointing. We were two couples, where one pair had a nice enough room, while the other had a room with lots of mold in the bathroom. Except for the mold problem, the rooms were clean. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The food was good and the servers were attentive and helpful. There was, however, the very strong smell of mold for the two of us who sat next to the wall This detracted from the experience. Called into the Wainstones for Sunday lunch after a weekend visit to Scarborough, Pickering and Helmsley with my sister. . Not been here for a couple of years and was delighted to find it unchanged. Slightly dark but very traditional and peaceful. A few people dining but it was a late lunch around 2.30ish. We both ordered beef and we were sooo glad we did. It came with roasted parsnip and carrot. Huge Yorkshire pudding,mash and roasties. The accompanying dishes were cabbage with peppers,cauliflower cheese ,broccoli and green beans. We stopped for lunch whilst passing, and noted on arrival that meals were being offered on a Buy one Get one Free basis, until the end of February. When entering, we were allocated a table and found the menus contained a good choice, although did not mention allergy information. Unfortunately the waitress disappeared for a considerable time before returning to take our orders. She advised that she had been delayed by the telephone! When eventually served, the meals represented very good quality and exceptional value due to the offer. Unfortunately there was a further delay waiting to pay, and these service delays have influenced our overall rating.
Had a Silver Wedding Anniversary lunch 25 years to the weekend since we had the Wedding Reception at The Wainstones. David who was the MC at the Wedding Reception organised a fantastic 2 Course Sunday Lunch with drinks in a private room. The food and service continues to be first class and the food portions were plentiful. We have had numerous family functions over the past 25 years and the standard remains very very high. I would recommend The Wainstones both for food and overnight stays. A big thanks to David for 25 years of great service.

We held a 70 th birthday on Sunday here and had a lovely family lunch and afternoon .Everyone was catered for without any fuss . The food was wonderful everyone was over the moon with the food no-one had any thing negative to say about anything. The whole experience from booking the room .right through was so easy David is wonderful and all the staff were a delight . Will definitely come back . Definitely recommend it to others . Thank you.
Room, spotless bathroom, even cleaner, everything spotless Breakfast is the best we had in two weeks of touring Scotland selection an option we had not ever seen before. Absolutely brilliant. Staff, all of them, absolutely charming, and most helpful As a former mystery shopper of hotels, I would say the hotel side, and the breakfasts experience was exceptional
This place is great for a lunch that exceeds expectation. The beef dupiaz was melt in the mouth. The monkfish was also delicious as was the belly pork. A good choice of dishes and some daily specials. Real ale is from a brewery just up the road. Reasonably priced and good portions but even better when they have an offer on.
We had a lovely 90th birthday party for my wife’s grandma at Wainstones recently. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the original ‘parmo’ which I’d been keen to try in Middlesbrough for a while. Service was excellent throughout the day.

Superb! Came for a surprise family meal to celebrate our silver wedding, 25years earlier we had celebrated our wedding here and lots of functions in between. First class service and the standard of food is first class.
Me and my girlfriend stayed here for The Coast to Coast. We had a lovely clean room and a really nice breakfast! The complementary lift back up to clay bank top was a really nice surprise!!
