Wanted to go to a decent independent pub that served food rather than a chain like Green King etc. Went to a table followed by a waitress who gave us menus and took drinks order. When she came back with drinks we ordered food, my wife went for corn beef hash cake and I ordered a Full House (bacon, black pudding and tomato on toast). The hash cake was like baby food in batter and the 'home made ' brown sauce was disgusting, my sandwich was quite bland and the toasted bread was limp. The overall impression of the pub was gloomy, will not be going back. Wish we had gone to a Green King!
Holiday recovery tea to restore and replenish. Tremendous steak pie accompanied with gravy,mushy peas and chips. Piping hot, just what the traveler needed. Cheeky scampi and fries as other main, fabulous value for money as always and cooked to perfection. Wonderful service by Katrina as usual, is there anyone as good? Managed by Ben who runs the whole operation flawlessly, even with new staff and many covers. Yes darling , great to be home.
First visit to eat. Unfortunately my burger was a bit burnt round the edges, managed to cut it away and eat the rest. What I had was tasty. This was mentioned to our waiter and he apologised. My husband's bean chilli was fine. Generally quite expensive but it seems all pubs are bringing their food prices in line with restaurants these days. The jury is out as to whether we'll visit again as there is plenty of choice on the wirral.
Nice food. Good mix of traditional an new interior.. was just a bit disappointed that there's a 10% service charge on food that your not informed about . I had told the staff to keep the change an then when I realised the prices hadn't added up, an I questioned the bill, I was told that will be the service charge.. i tip staff. This is a beautiful, quaint old pub, but with a converted cowshed, so plenty of space for large groups. I booked lunch for 20 people for my dad’s 75th birthday, and it was fantastic. All the staff were absolutely wonderful at looking after our party, service was perfect and the food was absolutely delicious. We’ll be back!
Lovely food, super service from Caitlin, new Spanish/ French manager engaging in European relations, and Dan, the chef that made it all happen. Add in Raby's answer to equestrian finesse, Katrina shared nature's reaction to using Marmite! How much is the price of milk these days?. 5/5..superb, Thank you guys.xx
Not only is the Wheatsheaf (The Thatch to locals) a beautiful pub with a great menu. They also manage to make the best Espresso Martini’s. Insider tip. Try the Rumtini version. It’s epic. Definitely worth the trip.
