The food and ambiance were surprisingly average considering the stunning location of Dartington. It is a bit challenging to evaluate the service. Two out of the three staff members we encountered were friendly and attentive, deserving of a 5-star rating. However, our main server came across as somewhat arrogant. Despite this, I still left a generous tip. During payment at the bar, he told me that cash tips were preferred, but as we were foreign visitors without British currency, it created an awkward situation at the end of an unremarkable meal. My suggestion to readers is to take heed of negative reviews, as the quality of service and food here can be inconsistent.
I had a wonderful dinner last night at this restaurant. The home cooked food was delicious and the breakfast this morning was also fantastic. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I would highly recommend this place for a nice dine-in experience. The price per person was around £50-£60, but the quality of the food and service definitely made it worth it. Overall, I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all a 5 out of 5.
Staying overnight in the Hall I spent a lovely evening in the pub recently. They have some great ales on tap. The bar and waiting staff were very friendly and attentive although it was busy so the service a little slow. The following morning I enjoyed an excellent breakfast in the pub. The restaurant is too expensive. While I appreciate that they use locally sourced ingredients, the prices do not align with customer expectations. Charging £5 for a pint and £4.25 for an apple juice is excessive.
I ordered the Welsh rarebit. The dish had large, unusable crusts, the rarebit was tepid, the salad was dry, and there were only a few cramps. It was not worth the price of £9.50.

I enjoy seeing animals, but having a **** run over my salad was not what I had in mind for a good meal.
