Normally, I love wine and tapas. The wine was good and the tapas were alright. I've definitely had better quality for the price. What really made this an average experience was the service. The gentleman working was not very friendly or patient. He seemed more interested in his phone and his friend than his customers. Every time that we needed something, I would have to get up and find him. I am not a very needy customer - it is normal to order a drink and tapas, ask for the WiFi password or where the bathroom is. It wasn't the best vibe in Montpellier.
This is an excellent wine bar in the heart of the restaurant district. very good choice of wines and knowledgable owners make it a pleasant location for a superior wine tasting. Tapas are available and serve as a nice way to meet friends at the start of an evening before going on for dinner but it is also an ideal location for a final glass of wine at the end of an evening. Best in Summer when outdoor seating is more freely available.
This seems to be run by two gentlemen who know their local wines. They speak English well and will ask what kind of wine you like (white - dry vs fruity? red - light, medium, strong?) and bring a wind from the region to you taste. All were excellent. We went back a second time after taking Montpellier Wine Tour (a great experience!) and enjoyed their selections even more. They also have a great selection of tapas.
Have been living in Montpellier for almost a year and cannot count how many times I've been here. It is a great little spot were the locals go. The owners are great; you can tell they enjoy their work a lot. The wine list changes throughout a year, so we are always trying something new. due to increasing competition people get more and more demanding on wine Barthe offer is not as refreshing as it use to be....still good wine however only from the area missing the long chairs long gonestill a very welcoming place. nice place, helpfull staffnice little street perfect for a drink before a meal in the next doors restaurants
We were walking around Montpellier looking for a glass of wine and stumbled upon this wonderful little place. They had superb wines for an unexpected low price and their tapas were just perfect. Can't wait to return!!!
Lovely wine bar with interesting ambiance, staff very friendly; however, surprisingly small wine list but they've been there 13 years so must be doing something right.
